DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

Because digital transformation will look different for every company, it can be hard to pinpoint a definition that applies to all. However, in general terms, we define digital transformation as the integration of digital technology into all areas of a business resulting in fundamental changes to how businesses operate and how they deliver value to customers. So, it's a cultural change that requires organizations to experiment and get comfortable with failure. This sometimes means walking away from long-standing business processes that companies were built upon in favour of relatively new practices that are still being defined.

A business may take on digital transformation for several reasons. But the most likely reason is that they have to: it's a survival issue. In the wake of the pandemic, an organization's ability to adapt quickly to supply chain disruptions and rapidly changing customer expectations has become critical.

Spending priorities reflect this reality. According to Worldwide Digital Transformation Spending Guide provided by International Data Corporation (IDC), spending on the digital transformation of business practices, products, and organizations continues "at a solid pace despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic." IDC forecasts that global spending on digital transformation technologies and services will grow 10.4 percent in 2020 to $1.3 trillion.

To conclude, digital transformation is a massive undertaking, especially for larger, established companies. When done right, it will produce a business that is more aligned with customer demands and resilient in the fast-moving digital future.

There's a lot more to managing a team than meets the eye. To properly lead a business, you need to appeal to employees through numerous methods, including emotional and financial incentives. Employees tend to enjoy managers who value them as people and professionals, whereas some of the original management theories didn't value kindness or work-life balance.

Management is a constantly changing field, and it is both an art and a science. Most modern-day workplaces employ multiple management theories to ensure optimal employee output. While many of these systems are hybrids of multiple theories and strategies, there are a few famous strategies that have been studied by managers for decades.

Until the day computers can think, learn and feel emotions, humans will probably be the most complicated assets to manage. We've come to expect error-free performance from a printer or fax machine, but you can't expect the same thing from a human. On the other hand, there are many things that machines just aren't capable of, which makes human assets irreplaceable. For this reason, proper management is vital to an organization's success.

"Proper management" is a tricky term, though. Not every employee, and certainly not every group of employees within a company, responds the same way to certain managerial tactics. The best managers are able to use different styles when dealing with different people, while still using one or two major guiding philosophies for leading a team. This can make modern management challenging.

It's common for managers to use more than one theory to achieve productivity or organizational goals. It is important for them to understand these different theories and know how to implement them, while also realizing past management theories don't always tell the whole picture when it comes to effective leadership.

Strategic planning may be characterized as a systematic effort to produce fundamental decisions and actions that shape what a business organization is, what it does, and why it does it. The objective of strategic planning is to develop a map by which to manage an organization's positioning.

There are a variety of perspectives, models, and approaches used in strategic planning. The development and implementation of these different tools depend on a large number of factors, such as size of the organization, nature and complexity of the organization's environment, and the organization's leadership and culture.

One of the most widely used strategic planning tools is a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis. In one form or another, most companies use SWOT analysis as a basic guide for strategic planning. If managers or consultants are able to provide objective, relevant information for the analysis, the results are extremely useful for the company.

Strengths represent those skills in which a company exceeds and/or the key assets of the firm. Examples of strengths are: a core group of highly skilled employees, cutting-edge technology, and high-quality products.

Weaknesses are those areas in which a firm does not perform well, such as continued conflict between functional areas, high production costs, and a poor financial position.

Opportunities are those current or future circumstances in the environment that might provide favorable conditions for the firm. Examples of opportunities include an increase in the market population, a decrease in competition, and legislation that is favorable to the industry.

Threats are those current or future circumstances in the environment which might provide unfavorable conditions for the firm, e.g. increased supplier costs, a competitor's new product development process, and legislation unfavorable to the industry.
