THE FUTURE SIMPLE TENSE AND TO BE GOING TO

Настоящее простое время (Future Simple) употребляется для выражения
действий, которые произойдут в будущем (обещаний, предсказаний, угроз). Для
выражения личных планов чаще используют Present Continuous или выражение
to be going to a для выражения действий, которые произойдут в будущем
согласно графику или расписанию, — Present Simple.
ОБРАЗОВАНИЕ
Future Simple образуется с помощью вспомогательного глагола will для
всех лиц и чисел.

Shipboard Training
The cadets of maritime colleges usually have their practical studies either on
board training vessels or merchant ships. Now summer is coming and the cadets are
going to have their shipboard training.
The cadets of the navigation department will keep watch at the wheel, paint the
hull, deck superstructures, masts, wash and scrub decks. They will launch and hoist
life-boats, learn how to use life- saving appliances in case of emergency. They are
going to work in the wheel-house as helmsmen.

Skilled officers will instruct them how to handle a sextant and other
navigational instruments, update charts, make entries into the log-book. The
apprentices will learn how to take bearings on some light-vessels, lighthouses,
different coastal objects and define the ship’s position on charts. They must also
know how to use eco-sounders, electronic charts, radars and satellite navigation
equipment. Future navigators will learn how to transmit and receive radiograms,
weather reports and navigational warnings. Under the boatswain’s supervision cadets
will take part in anchoring, mooring and cargo operations, handle ship’s lines and
cargo-handling equipment.
The cadets of the engineering department will work in the engine-room. They
will learn how to overhaul and maintain the main engine and auxiliary machinery,
how to lubricate and repair the engine-room equipment in case of trouble.
The cadets of the port operation department will work in ports and on board
ships during their shipboard training. When in ports they will learn how to load,
unload and stow cargo.
All the cadets must work hard to master their future profession.

Necessary procedures before leaving for the first shipboard training
I am a second-year cadet of the Water Transport Institute named after Georgy
Yakovlevich Sedov. All the cadets of Navigational and Engineering departments will
pass the shipboard training either on board foreign or Russian vessels to gain the
necessary seagoing experience that is 12 months in total.
After successful passing of credits and exams the second-year cadets have a
definite period of time for their shipboard training. Usually this period lasts for
4–6 months.
Before the departure the cadet must do all necessary preparations. First of all a
cadet must sign the report (sheet bypass) at the head of the department, library,
hostel, accounts department etc. Then the cadet takes the signed report and goes to
the shipboard training department. Here he signs the report at the head of the
shipboard training department and listens to the safety instruction. Having listened to
the instruction the cadet puts his signature in the registry log. Here the cadet also gets
an onboard training record book for deck cadet or for engine cadet.
The cadet is to provide the shipboard training department with the following
marine documents electronically before his departure, they are:
1) traveler’s passport (international passport)
2) seaman’s book and seafarer’s identity document
3) certificate on basic safety training;

4) certificate on security-awareness training of seafarers
5) medical book with passed medical commission
6) if necessary: medical certificate of fitness (physical examination), drug test,
alcohol test.
Before the departure every cadet shall make insurance, the cost of which
depends on different factors such as number of days, region of navigation or cadet’s
age. The insurance is paid either by shipping company or by the cadet.
During his shipboard training, the cadet will work as an apprentice, trainee,
deck or engine cadet. In this period the trainee must fill in the onboard training record
book, put all necessary stamps and sign the onboard training record book at the
Master (engine cadet is to sign it at the Chief Engineer).
Having six months of sea going experience the trainee may receive ordinary
seaman or motorman certificate and continue his seagoing experience in the rank of
an OS or a motorman.

THE PASSIVE VOICE
УПОТРЕБЛЕНИЕ
Страдательный залог (passive voice) показывает, что лицо или предмет
(подлежащее) подвергается действию, в то время как действительный залог
(active voice) показывает, что лицо или предмет (подлежащее) производит
действие. Мы используем страдательный залог, когда хотим обратить внимание
не на лицо, выполняющее действие, а на объект, с которым данное действие
производится.
Сравните: I repaired the engine. The engine was repaired.
Я отремонтировал двигатель. Двигатель был отремонтирован.
ОБРАЗОВАНИЕ
Страдательный залог времён группы Simple образуется при помощи
вспомогательного глагола to be в соответствующей форме и причастия
прошедшего времени от смыслового глагола:
