Visiting a ship
Last month we visited the m/v Ivan Bunin, a passenger ship, which is on regular service between Samara and Kazan.
When we approached the pier the liner was mooring. We knew that the ship could carry 216 passengers at a time.
The watch officer met us at the gangway and when we got on board we saw that all the sailors were working hard. Some sailors were busy with handling ropes, deck cadets were washing and scrubing the deck.
50
First of all the OOW took us to the navigating bridge. We found the 3-rd Officer there who was making entries into the log-book. He showed the ship’s navigational equipment to us.
Then we visited the engine-room. There were many sailors there. The motormen were lubricating the pumps, the 2-nd Engineer was overhauling the main engine and the 3-rd Engineer was regulating the air-conditioning system.
We spent two hours on board the liner and were very pleased with our visit. We thanked our guide, wished him happy voyages and left the ship.
