TEXT 15. Read and translate the text.

Italy. Villa San Michele.

Florence.

The Villa San Michele, just 15 minutes along winding roads from the centre of Florence, is probably one of the most aesthetically beautiful hotels anywhere in the world. Nestling in the woodlands of the Fiesole hillside, the Villa has been tastefully adapted from a 15th century Franciscan monastery and boasts tiny chapels, ecclesiastical furniture and an original façade designed by Michelangelo. Mink-coloured carpets, cream linens, tiled floors and antique and iron furniture set the theme throughout, providing a stylish contrast to the honey-coloured brick walls and impressive ivy-clad pillars.

Guests can choose to stay in either the air-conditioned rooms and suites of the main building, with their canopied beds and luxury bathrooms (rooms are mainly categorized by their view and, as some used to be monks cells, can be small) or one of the new junior suites that overlook the Italian gardens. These boast 4-poster canopy beds, expensive marble bathrooms with double showers, televisions, minibars, outdoor terraces and atmospheric lighting.

Privileged guests can indulge in delicious Italian cuisine in two different gourmet venues, the open-sided Loggia with its breathtaking views of Florence and the Arno Valley, or the intimate, yet equally appealing, indoor restaurant with its tiled floors, cream walls and melon-coloured linens. The service at both is exceptional. The ‘Last Supper Room’, complete with fresco, is a popular sitting-room, whilst guests can also enjoy drinks in the gardens amidst the lemon trees, or perhaps whilst listening to soft piano music in the cosy indoor bar.

A scheduled courtesy bus runs to and from Florence daily, whilst a heated outdoor pool (usually open from June to September) with a waterfall and memorable views, completes the facilities of this truly exceptional and most stylish hotel. Owned by Orient-Express Hotels and a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and Relais & Chateaux.
