Если прилагательное оканчивается на – у с предшествующей согласной, то в сравнительной и превосходной степени – у переходит – i : dirty – dirtier – the dirtiest
Если прилагательное оканчивается на – у с предшествующей гласной, то – у не изменяется: gay – gayer – the gayest
