Who do you consider the outstanding person of our country?

I consider Andrei Dmitrievich Sakharov was an outstanding scientist and public figure.

— He is remembered by everybody as an outstanding humanist, one of the best representatives of humankind who could teach and who foresaw the changes that are taking place now.

— Alfred Marshall was.
— When did he live?
— He was born in 1842 and he died in 1924.

— He lived and wrote in Great Britain.

— We do so because his textbook, Principles of Economics (1890), and the doctrines that he discussed became the standard for the teaching of that subject until well into 1940's.

— Marshall spent most of his adult life as a professor of economics at Cambridge University.

British Outstanding People
Great Britain is famous for its poets, writers and singers, it gave birth to such famous people as William Shakespeare, Robert Burns, Charles Dickens, Arthur Conan Doyle, Alexander Bell, Princess Diana, Margaret Thatcher, the Prime Minister of Great Britain in 1979-2000, and others. The Beatles group was also founded in Britain.
I would like to tell you about some of Britain's outstanding people.
William Shakespeare, the greatest dramatist and writes, was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564. His father was a glover and his mother was the daughter of a famous farmer. Shakespeare studied in a local grammar school, but he never went to university. Shakespeare married once and had three children. After his death in 1616 his house in Stratford was turned into a museum and now it is a popular place among tourists.
Shakespeare's tragedies include Hamlet, Othello, Macbeth and the most famous love story on the world Romeo and Juliet. William Shakespeare also wrote comedies and sonnets.
Arthur Conan Doyle created the world's most famous private detective Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson.
Alexander Bell was the inventor of the telephone. He was born in 1874. Bell entered the University of Edinburgh and became a teacher. Later he decided to become a doctor and he entered the medical department of the University of London. After that he left for America and studied sounds there. An idea of inventing a special apparatus for deaf people occurred to him. Working on such a machine he invented the telephone. At first telephone was not popular with the public, but after a big campaign it spread widely throughout the USA. He opened his own company to produce telephones. Later he gave up his business and spent his money on other scientific research. Bell died in 1922 respected both in Britain and in the USA.
Robert Burns was a well-know Scottish poet. He was born in 1759 in a poor family of a farmer. Burns was the eldest child of the seven in the family. Robert's mother knew a lot of folktales and she used to tell them t the children. At the age of six Robert Burns went to school because his father wanted him to be educated. The boy read a lot and was fond of reading. William Shakespeare was his favorite writer. When Robert was 15 he started writing poems about common people and things around him.
Later he organized a society for young people where they discussed different problems. After his father died, Robert had to work on a small farm, nut then he sold it and became an officer. At the age of 27 Robert Burns published his book of poems called Poems. Robert Burns died in 1796 in poverty. But people all over the world know and love them.
Charles Dickens was a famous English writer. He was born in 1812 in a poor family. His family lived in a poor area of London and when he was 10 his father was put in prison. Charles had to work hard. Later he described this period of life in is book David Copperfield. At the age of 12 he started going to school again. When Dickens was 25 he became one of the best newspaper reporters on London. He liked the job a lot. In 1838 he published his novel Oliver Twist which had a great success among the public.
Dickens traveled a lot, met his readers and gave public readings. Charles Dickens died in 1870. His novels are still popular and people read them with pleasure.
