Инфинитив с предлогом for

Оборот “For + Noun (Pronoun) + Infinitive состоит из предлога for, существительного в об­щем падеже или местоимения в объектном падеже и инфинитива.

For the results to be reliable you must Для того чтобы результаты были надежными, вам have them tested again and again. нужно их проверить снова и снова.

It is for you to decide whether to come Вам решать, приходить или нет. or not.

При переводе на русский язык предлог for опускается, при этом инфинитив переводится сказуемым придаточного предложения, а стоящее перед ним существительное (местоимение) – подлежащим. Тип предложения зависит от функции, выполняемой оборотом в предложении. Чаще всего этот оборот употребляется в функ­ции обстоятельства и переводится предложением с союзами чтобы, для того чтобы.

For money to be able to work it must be either invested or depos­ited in a bank.

Для того чтобы деньги могли работать, их нужно во что-то вложить или поместить в банк.

Their proposal was reasonable enough for the board to consider it in a meeting.

Их предложение было достаточно разумным, чтобы совет рассмотрел его на заседании.

The tendency was for the inflation rate to gradually decline. Тенденция заключалась в том, что уровень инфляции посте­пенно снижался.

This decision was for her to be made. - Это решение должна была принять она.

It's quite possible for them to accept your proposal. Вполне возможно, что они примут ваше предложение.

The best decision for us to make at the moment is to wait and see.

Самое лучшее решение, которое мы можем принять сей­час, это посмотреть, как будут развиваться события.

Exercise 2. Analyze the sentences and translate them into Russian.

  1. I am anxious for her to pass her exam.

  2. He stepped aside for me to pass.

  3. The text is too difficult for the students to translate.

  4. It was unusual for him to go out in the afternoon.

  5. He had made arrangements for mules and ponies to be ready for me on my arrival.

  6. I waited for him to go on.

  7. The table was small enough for the conversation to be general.

  8. He was quite willing for his little daughter to be brought up in England by her grandmother.

  9. The most important thing for us is to start early.

  1. She only had to express a wish for him to fulfil it if it was in his power.

  2. She did not say anything, but made way for us to pass.

  3. He was so occupied in his research work that it made difficult for him to be away from home for several weeks at a time.

  4. I sometimes think it is a shame for people to spend so much money this way.

  6. He asked for the papers to be brought.

Exercise 3. Translate the sentences with Infinitive Constructions into Russian

  1. The economic laws are known to be universal.

  2. The employees expected the management of the company to recon­sider the terms of the contract.

  3. For the economic growth to continue a whole set of macroeconomic measures needs to be taken.

  4. The financial crisis appeared to have affected different regions of the world.

  5. The new method is believed to have given good results.

  6. A new social protection policy is expected to be put into practice already this year.

  7. At the end of the year the statistical data will be found to be in line with the projections.

  8. The arrival of the technical experts is not likely to change the gen­eral picture of the reforms under way.

  9. They established what is believed to be a solid system of relation­ ships with trade partners.

  10. Their attitude to the process of reforms has never been thought to change so radically.

  11. There seems to be a misunderstanding as to the approaches used.

  1. Their efforts have not been reported to have resulted in substantial changes.
