When packing dangerous goods we must prevent the escape of the material contained within it. According to the international agreements for the carriage of dangerous goods packaging must be certified by a national competent authority. There is a universal system for the classification, packaging, marking and labelling of dangerous goods. This system provides their safe transport.
If the goods pass the tests, defined by UN Model Regulations, packaging may be regarded as meeting the requirements and marked accordingly. Tests leading to the issue of a UN performance certificate may only be carried out by authorized test stations. When the results of the test are satisfactory, a package performance certificate will be issued.
The certificate holder must pay an annual renewal fee for the Certificate. The specification of each packaging design type must be revalidated every 5 years for quality assurance purposes. It is very important to follow the closure information provided by the manufacturer carefully.
