Ourpurposeinwritingthisbookis tohelpyou,thesecondyear
student,toeliminatesomeoftheobstaclestosuccessintakingapracticalPhoneticscourseattheuniversitylevel.Overtheyears,wehave
identiedmanyofthefactorsthatwebelievespellsuccessinpronunciation improvement as well as general speech and communication
techniquesintheEnglishlanguage.
This book reects our positive experience of over ten years of
teachingaspecializedPhoneticscoursetohundredsofstudentswhose
aspirations have been to become successful language teachers. We
havepooledourknowledge,ourexperience,andthematerialstoprovideapracticalmanualthatcapitalizesonthesuccessfactors.Inthis
bookweofferyou things we dothatwork: carefully developedand

itisimportantforthestudentatthisstagetoacquirecertainhabitsof
uentconnectedspeechandmastertheelementsoflinking,contraction,reductionandassimilation.
