LANGUAGE PRACTICE
1. Answer the following questions.
1. What is Graphic design?
2. Where is Graphic design?
2. Do you agree with the following ideas about design.
1. Design is not art.
2. Art is found everywhere including design.
3. Design can change society.
3. Read the text and answer the question: What types of designers
are there?
Types of Designers
A designer is someone who designs the structure, format, or appearance of an object. Basically, anyone who is creative and has an eye for
unique creations like photos, graphics, games, interfaces, themes,
templates, spaces, products, services, and experiences is a designer.
Based on what they create, there are different ty pes of designe rs.
Web Designer
A web designer, also sometimes referred to as an interactive designer,
is a person who creates web interfaces and website pages for the internet.
A good designer will have strong knowledge of the design tools and
technologies and may also have some web development experience.
Graphic Designer
graphic designer is someone who creates visuals, images and other
A
visually-appealing elements, usually for conveying an idea.
37

I. Basic course
The works covered by a graphic designer include logos, brochures,
leaflets, business cards, invitations, packaging, and more. They use
colours, images, shapes, and words to create attractive graphic designs to
be used in various places.
The most common use of graphic designing is in game development
and for creating marketing products. A visually appealing design can
inspire customers to read about a new product or service.
Animation Designer
As the name says, an
animation designer creates animations. You
must have seen animated movies like Frozen and Toy Story. Video games
are another great example of animations.
Animators are responsible for bringing life to these still characters of
the cinema through special effects and the technology.
Interior Designer
The person who designs the various aspects of a house / office /
building, preferably according to the behavior of the people who are
supposed to use these spaces.
Interior designing has nothing to do with web or graphic design,
however, it still requires creativity. A designer must be able to analyze
people’s behavior and create suitable designs accordingly.
Do not confuse an interior designer with a decorator. Yes, a designer
may also sometimes decorate, but a decorator does not create new designs.
Motion Graphics Designer
A Motion graphics designer is responsible for bringing motions to
otherwise still images, illustrations, text, animation, etc.
All kinds of videos, animated graphics, animated presentations, storyboards, product demos, and movie title sequence are examples of motion
graphics.
Motion graphics is sometimes confused with animation, but they are
two different things. Motion graphics is a type of animation or can be
considered as a variant of it.
Industrial Product Designer
A product designer is very different from the ones we were talking
about earlier, but again, there is one common thing, creativity.
38

Unit 3. Design
Industrial designers, or product designers, are responsible for creating
designs for various physical products like consumer electronics, automobile, etc. while considering the function and form of the actual products.
Fashion Designer
A fashion designer is someone who makes use of the existing fashion
trends, materials, and his
/ her own creativity to introduce new designs
and product ideas.
Fashion designing is a very important and a completely separate
industry
UI / UX Designer
UI (User Interface) designer creates interfaces for mobile applica-
A
tions and other software programs. The user interface is how a user
interacts with the features and functions of a certain application.
A UI designer is different from a graphic designer in that the later
only designs the graphics and images while the UI designer defines how
users interact with those graphics and digital designs.
A UX designer is responsible for creating user experiences by
improving the design and usability of the interaction between the user
and the product.
Architectural Designer
An architectural designer is a person who creates plans for buildings,
houses, and other places.
He is different from an architect in that an architect is actually responsible for bringing out the concepts while a designer is the one who designs
drawings and models based on those concepts.
Unlike an architect, an architectural designer usually does not have an
official University degree, however, they may have other official qualifi-
cation and / or experience for the job.

5. Read the text and answer the question: What is the difference
between Print Design and Web Design?
Print Design vs. Web Design
Designing for print media versus designing for the web can be
a completely different experience. To understand better these differences,
the two can be compared in major topic areas: types of media, audience,
layout, colour, technology and careers.
Type s of Media: before looking at the actual differences in design,
it is important to know what type of work you may find yourself doing in
each field.
As a print designer, you may
work on
•• magazine advertisements
•• product design and packaging
•• business cards
•• logos
As a web designer, you may
work on
•• standard HTML websites
•• flash websites
•• email newsletters
•• banner advertising
Of course the list can go on for both, but the basic difference is that
when designing for print you will end up with a finished product that
someone can hold in their hand, and when designing for the web you
will generally work on an ever-evolving piece viewed on a computer
display.
