Dear Sirs,
I refer to the advertisement for a position of PR Assistant to General Director,
which appeared in yesterday’s Moscow Times and I would like to apply for this position.
156
As you will see from my CV, which is enclosed, I worked as a translator and
interpreter in Dena Company for 2 years. My responsibilities were translating from/to English (commercial contacts), interpreting, attending fashion fairs in Germany.
Also I have been working as the teacher of English for more than 8 years so I
have got excellent communication skills both in Russian and English.
I am compelled to look for a new position because of a low salary I have.
Moreover I am looking for a new challenge in my career and I really like dealing with people and reading English books. If you think I may be of service, I would be extremely interested to discuss the possibility of my joining you. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours, faithfully, Natalie Melchenkova Enc.
10) Study the rules a Letter of Application should be written & say what
information seems you not to be obligatory in the above letter & what data you would like to include in it.
Letters of Application
We write letters of application when we want to apply for a job or a course of
study. It is important to include only the information that is relevant, and to use a suitable style, formal or semi-formal.
The first paragraph mentions the reason for writing. It can also include the
name of the job/course you are applying for and where you saw it advertised.
The main body paragraphs can include:
what you are doing now what work experience you have your academic qualifications the personal qualities which make you suitable for the job or course.
What you write in the main body depends on what is written in the rubric. You
should link your ideas with appropriate linking words and phrases.
In your final paragraph, you can:
summarise the points in the main body thank the person for considering your application ask the person to consider you for the job/course mention the possibility of further communication
Present tenses are normally used but some past tenses can be used to describe
your past experience, (e.g. I finished school in 2003 and joined a computer course, where I obtained a diploma in Information Technology.)
You may also use future constructions, (e.g. I intend to continue my studies in
London and I will soon be starting voluntary work in order to...)
157
11) Read the rubric below, paying careful attention to the underlined
words and phrases. Then answer the questions that follow.
You have seen the following advertisement for a summer job and have decided
