The Arrangement of Entries
Sections: The contents of the book have been divided into;
Countries, Geographical Areas or Ship Reporting sections and are arranged in alphabetical order.
Example: RUSSIA (Baltic Coast)
Entries: Within each section the GENERAL NOTES are listed first.
Each entry can consist of a number of services, such as Pilots, Reporting and Ports
Contents List (at front of book): Shows sections and entries in page order, as they appear in the book.
Index (at back of book): Shows all the entries in alphabetical order.
Diagrams: All diagrams are for illustrative purposes only, and NOT TO BE USED FOR NAVIGATION
Information
1 Entry. The name of the entry which may also include alternative names by which the entry is known.
2Position. The geographical location of the entry, quoted to the nearest minute. This is intended as an approximate guide only.
3Location Code. The United Nations geographic location code for ports or terminals. The first two letters indicate the country and the last three letters indicate the port or terminal.
4Diagrams. Relevant diagrams are shown within or close by the text of the entry.
5Service. The services provided are listed under appropriate entry headings, (eg Pilots, Vessel Traffic Service, Port).
5 Description. A general description of the service provided.
7 Location. The location is normally the position of the shore pilot station or the port radio station, as appropriate, unless stated otherwise.
8 Area. A description of the area which the system covers is given, if not included in Description.
9 Contact Details. A list of frequencies (with call if known), telephone, fax, telex, telegraph, e-mail and website information of the entry or service.
Details are listed under separate contacts where known. Call. The call sign is given where it is known to differ from that of the station name.
Frequency. MF and HF frequencies are expressed in kHz.
VHF frequencies are identified by the appropriate International Maritime VHF Channel (Ch) designator.
Calling and working frequencies, where known, are separated by a semi-colon thus: Ch 16; 12.
Preferred frequencies, where known, are printed in bold type thus: Ch 1213.

EXPLANATORY NOTES OF ENTRIES AND SERVICE DETAILS
10Hours. Times quoted are in UT (GMT) unless otherwise specified and refer to the hours of listening watch.
11Procedures. Pilotage, Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) and Port Operations procedures. This normally includes whether participation is voluntary or compulsory and which vessels are affected.
10HOURS: Hr Mr (Ch 16): Mon-Fri: 0900-1700
11PROCEDURE:
(1)Participation in the VTS is mandatory for the following vessels:
(a)All foreign vessels
(b)Vessels of 10 000 GT or more
(c)Vessels under 10 000 GT carrying dangerous cargoes
(d)Vessels of 100 GT or more and maximum boarding capacity of 30 people or more (total of passengers, crew and other people on board)
(2)Inward-bound vessels should report to Anyport VTS on VHF or by telephone, at least 1h before entering the entrance channel, stating the following information:
(a)Vessel's name and call sign
(b)Last port and next port (or anchorage)
(c)ETA at the following:
(i)No 1 Lt buoy
(ii)Harbour entrance
1 2 Reporting Points. Details of the geographical position or area where vessels should report to a VTS, Harbour
Authority, or another specified contact.

13 Information Broadcasts. Details of scheduled broadcasts of navigational information are given.
Broadcasts containing a particular type of information may be detailed under more specific headings such as Weather Messages, Water Level Reports or Fog Warnings.
13INFORMATION BROADCASTS:
(1)Weather forecasts for Milford Haven area on VHF Chs 12 and 14 at 0300 0900 1500 2100 approx from the Port Control1
(2)Gale warnings on VHF Chs 12 and 14 on receipt from Cardiff Weather Centre'
(3)Expected shipping movements within the port are given to vessels entering the port and prior to getting underway from a berth or anchorage, also on request.
(4)Immediately after the local weather forecasts on VHF Channel 14, Navigation Warnings will be broadcast, also whether the last high or low water made prediction or not.
(5)Height of tide, wind speed and direction, and barometric pressure on request.
NOTE: Prior to these broadcasts notification will be transmitted to all ships on VHF Ch 16.
14 Notes. Miscellaneous information is given. This may include whether an entry is equipped with radar, the ports which are served by a Pilot Station, the Pilot Stations which a port is served by, or the name of the operating company. Additional side headings may be used as necessary.
