Complex Object and its Translation

1. Изучите следующую информацию.

В английском предложении свое мнение, суждение, предположение о каком-либо факте, явление, лице, предмете можно выразить двумя способами:

1. Сложноподчиненным предложением с придаточным дополнительным предложением. Например:

We believe that this value changes. Мы полагаем, что эта величина изменяется.

2. Простым предложением со сложным дополнением.

Сложное дополнение (Complex Object) состоит из существительного в общем падеже или местоимения в объектном падеже (me, you, him, her, it, us them) и инфинитива. Структура предложения следующая:

We believe this value to change. Мы полагаем, что эта величина меняется.

We believe it to increase. Мы полагаем, что она увеличивается.

Сложное дополнение употребляется после глаголов, выражающих:

1. предположение, суждение, мнение: to think (думать), to consider (считать), to believe (полагать), to suppose (предполагать), to expect (ожидать), to assume (допускать), to prove (доказывать) и др.

Например: We consider heat to be a form of energy. Мы считаем, что тепло является формой энергии.

2. физическое восприятие и ощущение: to see (видеть), to observe (наблюдать), to hear (слышать), to feel (чувствовать). После этих глаголов частица to перед инфинитивом в сложном дополнении опускается. Например:

We observe the direction constantly change. Мы наблюдаем, что направление непрерывно меняется.

3. желание, волеизъявление: to want (хотеть), to wish (желать). Например:

The teacher wanted us to correct all our mistakes. Учитель хотел, чтобы мы исправили все ошибки.

4. приказание, разрешение, просьба: to make (заставлять), to cause (заставлять), to allow (позволять), to permit (разрешать, позволять).

Следует помнить, что после глагола to make в значении заставлять частица to опускается. Например: Manufactures try to make one attachment serve as many purposes as possible. Производители пытаются заставить одно приспособление выполнять как можно больше функций (дословно: заставить, чтобы одно приспособление выполняло как можно больше функций).

Следует также иметь в виду, что после глаголов to permit (позволять), to enable (давать возможность), to allow (позволять, разрешать) дополнение употребляется в пассивном (страдательном) залоге. Например:

Modern science allows new discoveries to be rapidly made. Современная наука позволяет быстро делать новые открытия.

Предложения с этими глаголами могут употребляться в активном (действительном) залоге, но после них необходимо употреблять прямое дополнение или слова us, one, хотя на русский язык их не следует переводить. Например: Modern science allows us/one to rapidly make new discoveries.

2. Переведите следующие предложения на русский язык.

1. We want the experimental data to be presented in some detail and discussed as thoroughly as possible.

2. This allows the rope to be adjusted for various lengths.

3. The building of a good road causes a great deal of preliminary work to be done.

4. Specialists remembered scientists to have once carried out this reaction.

5. Scientists found this value to be accurate enough.

6. They expected us to have found the answer to this question.

7. We know heat to be a difficult problem to be solved.

8. The first investigator of heat found different substances to be heated to different degrees by the same amount of coal.

9. One knows heat to have been of great importance for development of industry.

10. Some scientists consider Mars to be covered with vegetation.

11. Design features of the device allowed the specimen to be heated in vacuum.

12. We know the velocity of a particle to be continuously changing.

13. Different purposes and circumstances will require us to apply different procedures and devices.

14. We know the pressure to decrease as altitude increases.

15. We know the apparatus used for converting electrical energy from one voltage to another to be called a transformer.

16. Modern discoveries allow science and engineering to be developed.

17. The discoveries in the field of atomic energy allowed our scientists to construct the first atomic power station.

18. One may safely expect this prediction to be quite reliable.

19. One cannot consider the use of higher voltage for transmission in small collieries to be necessary.

20. Scientists expected the core to be coated with a thin layer of pure rubber.

21. One cannot expect a complicated problem like that of using solar energy to be solved in a year or so.

22. We know pressure to be required for forcing water through a pipe.

23. We assume gas to be a number of small particles called atoms.

24. This property allows the alpha particle to be detected.

25. We assume these charts to give more accurate results for such sections which are reinforced in tension and compression.
