I study at Voronezh State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering. It is one of the top building universities in Russia and a large scientific and educational centre. It is a regional centre of research and teaching now. Founded in 1930 as the Civil Engineering Institute, it gained its status of the State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering in 1995.

The University trains specialists and offers additional training in 25 areas and 8 faculties: the faculty of Civil Engineering, the Architectural faculty, the faculty of Building Technology, the faculty of Engineering Systems and Sanitary Constructions, the Mechanical and Road-Building faculty, the faculty of Automation Technology and Information Systems, the faculty of Construction Economics and Management and the Social and Humanitarian faculty.

I study at the faculty of Construction Economics and Management and get a very good standard of education because we have an outstanding teaching staff. Our education combines classical university education with special courses on Economics. There are also several specialized areas of study at our faculty. Among them are money economics, international economics, labour economics, industrial economics, construction economics, agricultural economics, mathematical economics, etc. Our University offers courses for training experts in a variety of fields, such as civil engineers, architects, technologists, sanitary-technical engineers, road builders, economists and others.

More than 7000 students (including foreign students) study at the day-time and correspondence departments. The University confers different bachelor’s, master’s and professional degrees and the period of study is 4 - 6 years, depending on the qualification.

Our University has established relations with universities in Europe, Asia, and America and we have many opportunities for international exchange and cooperation. Today the university is a member of European architectural association and it possesses a certificate that allows its graduates to work in 140 countries all over the world. The university publishes scientific works, textbooks, monographs, and teaching manuals. The students actively participate in all types of scientific work and research. Knowledge of English and other foreign languages is very important for the international exchange and scientific work. The reading of original literature is also crucial to get the latest information. Well education is very important in the “information age”.

Now the University occupies six buildings. Its research laboratories and lecture rooms are equipped with modern facilities. Our University has also state-of-the-art computer laboratories. Students have facilities to use the Internet.

At the disposal of the students there is a well-stocked library. Students live in the halls of residence on campus and in private flats off campus.

Sports are also very important and we have excellent sports facilities. Five gyms are for the students who are fond of sports. Besides regular physical training classes we have several sports sections, such as badminton, volleyball, boxing, football, table tennis and others. The university has a sports camp in the picturesque suburbs of Voronezh.

Cultural life is very important for students. We have student rock and folk groups, a student dance group.

Teaching at our University can be carried out through distance learning or e-learning, continuing education or correspondence courses. It includes postgraduate programmes for those who want to improve their qualifications, bring their skills up to date or retrain for a new line of work.

Our graduates work at construction job sites, at different building companies and enterprises, in design and scientific research institutes.

The University is headed by the rector - the professor Victor S. Surovtsev who aims to hold the university on the key position of teaching and research.
