Tomato

The Tomato was brought to Europe from Mexico in the 16^th century. The Italian botanist Mattioli caaled it pomo d’oro or golden apple, because of the colour the tomato has during its ripening. So the Italian call the fruit pomodoro (the plural is pomodori), the French, the English, Spanish and German cjntinue to use the name the Indians of Mexico gave it : tomato or tomate.
