Geographical position of Great Britain

The UK and Northern Ireland is situated in north cost west of Europe, in Britain Island. The separated the English Channel, North Sea and other. British Isles includes two large isles: Great Britain and isles and 5000 small isles.

The largest isle is Great Britain.

There are some of 500 small isles.

The difference between the uk and Great Britain.

The UK includes: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Great Britain include only England, Scotland and Wales, without Northern Ireland.

The UK is situated between the Atlantic Ocean and North Sea. It has a total land area (25000 км2). 99% - land; 1% - water.

The are four historic days:

  • 1556 – England and Wales were united;

  • 1707 – Scotland joint the union England and Wales and the Kingdom of Great Britain.

  • 1801 – the Northern Ireland joint the Kingdom of Great Britain.

  • 1922 – the official name was change to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

England

  • Is a northwest Europe and south part of Great Britain. Is the largest part of the UK and 81% of the population lives in England. The capital of the UK is in England. English is the official language in the UK. But in Wales and Scotland speak and other languages. The roll family lives in England, in London. England doesn’t have own government and own parliament.

Scotland

  • Is north of Great Britain and washed Atlantic Ocean in the west. The capital of Scotland the Edinburg. In consist of 890 island and 130 habitual. Scotland famous is lakes. The most famous is Loch Ness. Scotland has own parliament, with was establish 1999 by the Queen.

Thomas Walter Scott, Sean Connery and Robert Burns were born in Scotland.

Wales

  • Is situated south west of Great Britain. The capital city is Cardiff. Wales is the mountainous country. Bristol Channel in the south, Georgian Channel in the west, Arish Sea in the north. It is famous national sport – rugby.

Wales has own national assembly, but this body can’t make lots. It is limited domestic powers.

Northern Ireland

  • Is situated in the north part of the island of Ireland. The capital city is Belfast. The second list densely population after Scotland. Northern Ireland has own parliament in Ireland national with can make lots.

The UK has a flower emblems.

Red Rose – the national flowers of England.

According to the legend, in 1455-1485 was the war between two royal houses. Red Rose in the one hand and White Rose in the other hand. The war ended married. Seen time Red Rose became national emblems of England.

St. George is the saint patron.

The national flag of England is the Cross of St. George.

The national flower of Scotland is the thistle.

In the 15th century in Scotland was a war and this plant was a symbol of defense.

St. Andrew is the saint patron.

The national flag of Scotland is the flag of St. Andrew.

The national flower of Wales is the daffodil.

According to the legend, in the war time the flower help people recognize who is friend and who is enemy.

The national flag of Wales is the Welsh Dragon.

St. David is the saint patron.

The national flower of Northern Ireland is the shamrock.

The choice has religion means. It is the Trinity.

The national flag of Northern Ireland is the Cross of St. Patrick.

St. Patrick is the saint patron.
