Тема урока: «Holidays make us happy»

Good morning, dear boys and girls! I’m glad to see you. Are you glad to see me? Who is on duty today?

Today we are going to speak about holidays. We will learn how each of us can relax and what we like to do most of all.

The aim of the lesson will be to find our favourite phrase. You do exercise very well and I give you a word from this motto (ребус) CURIOSITY KILLED A CAT.

  1. Phonetic exercise.

Thirty days have September,

April, June and November, All the rest have thirty one. February has twenty eight alone. Only leap year, One in four, Gives to February One day more!

  1. Guys, look at the ex. 22. There are so many holidays in our life! Let’s read and translate. What is your favourite feast? Why?

  2. Let’s read about Mark and Clair. (ex. 19, page 150) Tell us what do you or your parents, friends or teachers do when you have different feasts? Доска, транскрипция

e.g. On Women’s Day I give many flowers to my mother.

On Victory Day

I

My friends and me

My parents

My teachers

Make presents for my relatives

On Women’s Day

Make telephone calls

On the 1st of April

Visit my friends

On May Day*

Make presents

On Easter

Send postcards…….

What connects all of these feasts?

The first day of the month of May is known as May Day. It is the time of year when warmer weather begins and flowers and trees start to blossom. It is said to be a time of love and romance. It is when people celebrate the coming of summer with lots of different customs that are expressions of joy and hope after a long winter.

The 1st challenge for you: call + day (in a week seven…) + TV = cat

  1. Do you like to get presents. First of all let’s read the ex. What face do you see? Calm, indifferent, happy.

The 2nd challenge for you: cook + ill +bed = killed

  1. Now let’s return to the ex. 19. Make your own sentences with these phrases. Your neighbour will translate you. Another neighbour will put these sentences in any Tense he/she wants.

The 3rd and the last challenge for you to learn who killed a cat: coin + puppy + friend +post + city = curiosity

Well done! Curiosity killed a cat. Who knows the translation of this proverb? Does this proverb suit our class?

Home Assignment.

p. 151, ex. 21 – read, translate and match the postcards with the text about holidays.
