- Привет, Мэри! Сто лет тебя не видела! Как твоя поездка во Францию?

- Привет, Джейн! По правде сказать, это был какой-то кошмар.

- Да? А что случилось?

- Ну, как ты знаешь, мы с мужем решили совершить культурную поездку в Париж и заранее заказали номер на двоих в пятизвездочной гостинице. Вообще-то, мы сначала думали остановиться в гостинице попроще, где в стоимость включено только проживание и завтраки, но потом мы подумали, что за год напряженной работы мы заслужили высококлассное обслуживание, и решили остановиться в Ритце.

- Звучит многообещающе!

- Да, но все пошло наперекосяк, как только мы отправились в путь. Начнем с того, что в день отъезда мы проспали, и вместо того, чтобы сесть на автобус до аэропорта на автобусном вокзале, как и было запланировано, нам пришлось вызвать такси. Водитель оказался абсолютно неопытным: он вечно сворачивал не туда, не обращал внимания на светофоры и даже неожиданно остановился на перекрестке, из-за чего образовалась огромная пробка. В результате мы приехали в аэропорт за 20 минут до вылета нашего самолета.

- О, Боже! Надо было ехать на метро.

- Да, мы потом это поняли. Но это было не самое плохое. Потом мы направились к пункту паспортного контроля и приема багажа. Мы так торопились, что уронили один из чемоданов, и все наши вещи просыпались на пол. Нам пришлось укладывать чемодан прямо посреди зала. Наконец-то, мы получили посадочные талоны и поспешили к залу ожидания, но вдруг услышали, что наш вылет задерживается из-за плохой погоды.

- Ну, по крайней мере, это значило, что вы точно успели на самолет…

- Да уж. Через пять часов мы, наконец, сели на самолет, стюард пожелал нам приятного полета, и самолет взлетел. На борту самолета нам предложили пообедать, и я думаю, именно тогда я и отравилась.

- Бедняжка…

- Мне было так плохо, что после того, как мы достигли пункта назначения, мне пришлось провести в постели 3 дня нашей поездки. В последний день мы пошли в пеший тур по Парижу. Нам, в общем-то, понравилось, но из-за моего пищевого отравления нам не удалось на пару дней съездить к Средиземному морю. Получается, зря мы брали купальники и крем для загара.

- Кто знает, при таком невезении, ты могла бы получить солнечный удар, если бы поехала туда.

- Да уж.

- А как дорога обратно в Лондон? У вас ведь был билет в один конец, да?

- Да. Мы решили вернуться в Лондон поездом. Мы заранее не бронировали билеты, и нам удалось купить билеты в стандартное купе.

- Это были места для некурящих?

- Неужели ты думаешь, что нам могло так повезти? К тому же, поезд не шел прямо до места назначения, и нам пришлось делать пересадку. Потом мы сели на паром, чтобы пересечь Ла-Манш, и через пару часов мы уже были дома. А как твой отпуск?

- Мы путешествовали автостопом, но это было далеко не так авантюрно, как ваш отдых по туристической путевке.

For tourists yearning to escape the crowd¹, wander off the beaten track² and get back to nature³ Suriname increasingly looks a promising choice⁴.
