Phraseology 3
Initial Message
When flying under VFR, an aircraft may change frequency to establish communications with an aeronautical station to obtain:
•some form of service (FIS, RIS) from an ATSU or
•clearance to penetrate a MATZ or
•clearance to enter controlled airspace under special VFR
The initial call should include the call sign and a request for the type of service required. On receipt of the message ‘GO AHEAD‘ (or ‘Pass your message’ in the UK) from the ground station, the initial message would be sent by the aircraft. The exact information, and the order in which it must be passed, will vary with each unit and this is tabulated below.
