Should вживається з неозначеною формою дієслова (+ infinitive):

- When you play tennis, you should always watch the ball.

Заперечна форма утворюються за допомогою заперечної частки not: shouldn't (or should not) (= It's not a good thing to do or it's not the right thing to do):

- Tom shouldn't go to bed so late.

- You work all the time. You shouldn't work so hard.

З should часто використовується I think/I don't think/Do you think .:

- I think Carol should buy some new clothes. (= I think it's a good idea)

- It's late. I think we should go home now.

- 'Shall I buy this coat?' 'Yes, I think you should.'

- I don't think you should work so hard. (= I don't think it's a good idea)

- I don't think the police should carry guns.

.. should ...?:

- Do you think I should buy this jacket?

- What time do you think we should go home?

За значенням must більш категоричне:

- It's a good film. You should go and see it.

- It's a fantastic film. You must go and see it.

should =ought to ...:

- It's a good film. You ought to go and see it. (= You should go and see it.)
