Данное методическое пособие по изучающему чтению составлено для студентов 2,3 курсов экономических специальностей.

Этот вид чтения предполагает полное и точное понимание всех основных и второстепенных фактов, их осмысление и запоминание. Студент должен уметь оценить, прокомментировать, пояснить информацию, сделать из прочитанного вывод.

Предполагается, что для овладения этим видом чтения студент должен уметь догадываться о значении слов по контексту, понимать логические связи в предложении и между частями текста.

What is an organization?

Formally defined, an organization is a collection of people working together to achieve a common purpose. In so doing, the people are able to accomplish tasks that are for beyond the reach of anyone acting alone. Because of these unique and special capabilities, organizations of all types and sizes are important elements in any society. Most share at least three common features:

Purpose: to produce a good or service of value to customers or clients.

Division of labour: the assignment of different tasks to different people, acting individually and/or in groups.

Hierarchy of authority: the level-by-level arrangement of managers in order of increasing authority.

The organizational purpose is to produce goods or services that satisfies the needs of its customers or clients. Ideally, something useful for society should be produced in order for any organization to justify its existence.

The division of labour is the process of breaking up large tasks

( such as creating a global computer network ) and assigning smaller tasks ( such as creating one part of a software support program ) to individuals or groups. Once formed, however, this division of labour must be well coordinated if a common purpose is to be achieved. An important means of doing so is the organization’s hierarchy of authority. This is a level-by-level arrangement of managers in order of increasing “authority” from bottom to top. It clarifies the performance accountability for every worker to a higher-level manager. A manager’s authority, in this sense, is as the right to assign tasks and direct the activities of subordinates in ways that support accomplishment of the organization’s purpose.
