Text 3. These names glister in gold
As you know, the sport status of the state or particular region is estimated not only by achievements at international arenas, but also by the number of winners and medalists of the Olympic Games. In this context the Kuban Region is one of the few sport centers of the country, which brought up more than a dozen of Olympians champions. We would like to remind you about some of those Olympians, who brought fame to the region and whole Russia.
First Olympic Champion
Irina Karavaeva made invaluable contribution to the history of Kuban sport. World and Europe multi champion in trampolining, she became the first winner of Sidney Olympic Games 2000 in trampolining.
Irina set several records and won multiple victories as a member of the national team and in synchronized trampolining. She has the biggest amount of medals among all sportswomen in trampolining.
The future champion began her competitive career when she was seven. At first she took interest in acrobatics, but at the age of fourteen she turned her attention to trampoline and climbed significant height there. The great merit for that belongs to coaching staff, headed by Vitaliy Dubko, the legendary coach, assisted by Lyudnila Nemezhan and choreographer Galina Samsonkina.
In 2005 Irina was awarded the status of the world-class judge and for the first time tried herself as a judge at the Eindhoven World Championship (the Netherlands). In 2009 she was elected the vice-president of the Trampolining Federation of the Krasnodar Region. At the present moment Irina is the head of the Olympic Council of the Krasnodar Region.
The Best Pusher In The World
Alexey Voevoda is equally well-known in the sport world. He is the only Kuban athlete, who gained medals at Winter Olympic Games.
In 2006 in Turin Alexey Voevoda together with Philipp Egorov, Alexey Seliverstov and Alexander Zubkov, members of the bobsleigh crew, won the silver medal of the Olympic Games. Four years later at the main sport forum in Vancouver he also became the medalist; this time he got the bronze medal in team of two, together with Alexander Zubkov.
He began his professional bobsleigh career in 2002. However, he gained his first sport acceptance owing to arm wrestling. In this sport the native of Sochi repeatedly took the lead in the world championships. He began his trainings in the cellar of the school № 8.
