17. The Present Perfect

17.1. Make the sentences negative and interrogative.

They have been to London for 3 weeks. 2. She has already started her new job. 3. He’s gone to America. 4. He has smoked five cigarettes today. 5. I’ve seen a lot of my former classmates recently. 6. Oh, I’ve forgotten about my Dad’s birthday. 7. My mother has lost all her money. 8. Mr. Jenkins has just retired from his job. 9. I have already posted the letter. 10. Tom has lost all his money today. 11. Mary has known him for many years. 17.2. Ask questions beginning with “Have you ever …? Answer the questions.

Pattern: Have you ever eaten at the student cafeteria? - Yes, I have. I have

eaten there many times. Or: No, I haven’t. I usually eat my meals at home.

17.3. Fill in for or since.

17.5. Ask questions to the underlined parts of the following sentences.

17.6. Use the Present Perfect Simple instead of the infinitives in brackets.

17.7. Use the Present Perfect or the Past Simple tense instead of the infinitives in brackets.

17.8. Oral work.

17.9. Read the passage below, continue the story.

Mr. Philips has fed up recently. His boss hasn’t been very happy with him. The weather has been terrible. His journeys to work have been long and difficult. His two children have been naughty and disobedient. Tonight, however, he is feeling much happier. Why?...

17.10. Translate into English using the Present Perfect Tense or the Past Simple Tense.
