The Hare and the Elephant
A little Hare lives in a thick forest. She is very timid and is afraid of
everything. One day she hears a great noise. She thinks “The sky is falling; I must
run to get out of the way. Soon she meets a Deer.
“Where are you running?” asks the Deer.
“The sky is falling and I am running to get out of the way,” answers the Hare.
“Well, I will go with you,” says the Deer and they ran away together.
Soon they meet a Fox who is looking for something to eat.
“Where are you going this fine morning?” ask the Fox.
“The sky is falling and we are running to get out of the way,” answers the
Deer.
“I think I will go with you,” says the Fox. “I can run as quick as you can”.
Soon they meet a Lion.
“Where are you going?” asks the Lion.

“Then I will go with you,” says the Lion.
On their way they meet a Tiger. He is very much surprised to see where the Hare,
the Deer, the Fox and the Lion together.
“Where are you going?” asks the tiger.
“The sky is falling and we are running to get out of the way,” says the Lion.
“Then I want to go with you,” says the Tiger.
At last they meet and Elephant.
“Where are you going?” asks the Elephant.
“The sky is falling, and we are running to get out of the way”, says the Tiger.
“Why do you think that the sky is falling?” asks the Elephant.
The Tiger looks at the Lion, the Lion looks at the Fox, the Fox looks at the Deer,
the Deer looks at the Hare and the Hare…
“A great noise… great noise,” says the Hare.
“A great noise? asks the Elephant. “Listen to me.” And he makes a loud
trumpeting. “Are you afraid of this noise? This is how I always say ‘Good
morning’ to the forest,” says the Elephant.
Now the Hare is ashamed. She turns and runs away as quick as she can. All the
other animals are also ashamed, and they run away, too. They do not want to hear
the Elephant laugh at them.
