FIRE TRIANGLE
The fire triangle оr соmbustiоn triangle is a simple mоdel fоr understanding the neсessary ingredients fоr mоst fires.

The triangle illustrates the three elements a fire needs tо ignite: heat, fuel, and an оxidizing agent (usually оxygen). SAFETY ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT
The construction industry is one of the world’s major industries. Its achievement in rebuilding areas devastated by both natural and man-made disasters, and in providing power, services and communications to meet the rising needs and expectations of people throughout the world, has conferred great benefits on the human race. Despite mechanization, construction remains a major employer of labour — it often employs between 9 and 12 per cent of a country’s working population, and sometimes as much as 20 per cent.
There has, however, been a price to pay for this continuous growth and activity. Although it is difficult to obtain accurate statistics in an industry in which many accidents go undetected and unreported, in many countries known fatal accidents, and those involving loss of working time, frequently exceed those in any other manufacturing industry.
Contributing to the high rate of accidents are those characteristics of the industry which distinguish it from the rest of the manufacturing sector. These are:
the high proportion of small firms and of self-employed workers;
the variety and comparatively short life of construction sites;
the high turnover of workers;
the large numbers of seasonal and migrant workers, many of whom are unfamiliar with
construction processes;
exposure to the weather;
the many different trades and occupations.
The improvement of safety, health and working conditions depends ultimately upon pe ople working together, whether governments, employers or workers. Safety management involves the functions of planning, identifying problem areas, coordinating, controlling and directing the safety activities at the work site, all aimed at the prevention of accidents and ill health. Accident prevention is often misunderstood, for most people believe wrongly that the word “accident” is synonymous with “injury”. This assumes that no accident is of importance unless it results in an injury. Construction managers are obviously concerned with injuries to the workers, but their prime concern should be with the dangerous conditions that produced the injury — with the “incident” rather than the “injury”. On a construction site there are many more “incidents” than injuries. A dangerous act can be performed hundreds of times before it results in an injury, and it is to eliminate these potential dangers that managers’ efforts must be directed. They cannot afford to wait for human or material damage before doing anything. So, safety management means applying safety measures before accidents happen. Effective safety management has three main objectives:
to make the environment safe;
to make the job safe;
to make workers safety conscious.

SAFETY ORGANIZATION
The organization of safety on the construction site will be determined by the size of the work site, the system of employment and the way in which the project is being organized. Safety and health records should be kept which facilitate the identification and resolution of safety and health problems on the site.
In construction projects where subcontractors are used, the contract should set out the responsibilities, duties and safety measures that are expected of the subcontractor’s workforce. These measures may include the provision and use of specific safety equipment, methods of carrying out specific tasks safely, and the inspection and appropriate use of tools. The person in charge of the site should also assure that materials, equipment and tools brought on to the site meet minimum safety standards.
Training should be conducted at all levels, including managers, supervisors and workers. Subcontractors and their workers may also need to be trained in site safety procedures, because teams of specialist workers may mutually affect each other’s’ safety.
There should also be a system so that site management has information quickly about unsafe practices and defective equipment.
Safety and health duties should be specifically assigned to certain persons. Some examples of duties which should be listed are:
provision, construction and maintenance of safety facilities such as access roadways, pedestrian
routes, barricades and overhead protection;
construction and installation of safety signs;
safety provisions peculiar to each trade;
testing of lifting machinery such as cranes and goods hoists, and lifting gear such as ropes

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Minimum PPE Requirements for Safety at Construction Site
Hard Hat or Helmet. Hard hat or helmet is issued to each and every personnel working on site. It has to be worn all times at job site.
Safety Glasses. Safety glasses are required at construction site every time debris is filled in air due to activities on site.
Hand Protection Gloves. Hand gloves are supplied to all personals to protect against cuts when handling material or equipment’s, during cleaning operations, cutting metal studs or similar works.
Safety Vests. Safety vests also called as high visibility shirts. Purpose of safety vest is to keep
the person always clear in view, even in the dark and he should be visible to everyone. Safety vests are of different bright colors like red, green, yellow so it's easy for workers to see and locate each other.
Proper Clothing. Shirts, long pants and hard soul shoes, a 6-inch-high boot is recommended.
Additional PPE Equipment for Safety at Construction Site
Hearing Protection. It is compulsory to wear hearing protection equipment near any equipment,
tool or machinery which makes loud noises. As per standard practice if you are 2 foot away from somebody and you need to shout to talk, putting hearing protection is necessary.
Respiratory Protection. Sometimes as voluntary respiration policy dust mask is supplied, any employee looking for additional comfort or safety while working with fiber glass, fire proofing, cleaning the floors or handling debris.
Face shields. A full face shield should be worn along with safety glasses when working in a high debris, operating grinder or any spark producing activity or similar activities or when done on site. An approved welding shield is compulsory to wear during all welding operations.
Safety Harness. The safety harness is an attachment between a fixed and mobile object and is usually fabricated from rope, cable and locking hardware. Full body safety harness to be used as a procedure for fall protecting system, ignorance can result in severe physical harm. Safety harnesses keep workers safe and are helpful in freeing their hands for work even while hanging on the side of a building.
Material Storage. Material on the job site should be stored properly when not in use to prevent injury and wastage of materials. Ensure proper storage and good housekeeping. Proper storage can prevent the falls of the materials leading to material damage and accidents. Weight of the material stored should be within safe loading limits of the building floor. Keep the passageway always clear for walking of personal and prevent injuries. Always store the material away from traffic. Store material at least 6 feet away from the openings in the floor and 10 feet from the edge of the floor if the wall is not built on edge of floor.
Manual Material Handling. The personnel should be aware of his weight lifting capacity and if required take the help of another person if required instead of taking all load himself and use proper lifting techniques. Always need to wear the safety equipment’s while working on construction site.
