Opinion 1. I reckon it’s absolutely unacceptable for Kate to treat her kitten like that; animals deserve kindness. Back when I got my first dog, I was overwhelmed at first, but I learned that patience and love were key to building a bond. If I had shouted or been cruel to him, I can’t imagine the damage it would have done to our relationship.

Opinion 2. I actually think it’s great that they got her a kitten! It could really teach her responsibility if she just gave it a chance. When I adopted my cat, at first, I wasn’t keen on the idea either, but over time I realised how much joy he brought into my life and how important it was to care for him.

The relationship between animals and children is a very special one. Psychologists say that children who own pets score higher on tests of popularity, social skills, and compassion for others. Children who own pets maintain better relationships with peers, especially in grade school. Pets also teach children social behaviour, tolerance, how to make friends, and how to be sensitive towards others. Dogs, in particular, provide sympathy, love, and security to children.
