Appendix 2

I want to describe my niece. Her name is Angela. She is in her early teens. She is twelve. She is only five years younger than me. Of course, she never calls me ‘aunt’. She is my elder sister’s daughter. Angela is a very creative and talented girl, but she’s shy and unsociable. With me she is not very frank but all in all she is friendly.

MY DREAM FLAT

People often ask me what my dream house looks like as I’m a designer. Now, let me think a bit…

Well, first of all, it is a flat, not a house, in the center of the city, on the very top of the building. Thanks to that, it has most beautiful views. I want to live in a stylish modern high-tech flat in a minimalist style.Alift takes you to the top floor. When you go out of the lift, you enter a spacious impressive hall with large glass windows. The walls are covered with light wallpaper and there’re lots of pictures on them. A small designer red sofa faces the window. The kitchen is spacious. It has a bar , as well as a beautiful glass table and chairs covered with white leather.

The living room has a modern design. The wall to the outside is made of glass, and so the room looks airy light. There is a huge TVset on the other wall. In the center of the room, there is a sofa, where you can sit or lie while watching TV. The room has a beautiful gas fireplace, which makes it cosy and warm.

The bedroom is white and green. The walls and the floor are white, and the bed and the curtains, as well as some decorations are green, which gives the room that special touch. There is a special dressing room which has lots of drawers and shelves and a huge wardrobe, a place for shoes, a big mirror with lights and a dressing-table. And finally, there’s a huge bathroom. It has both a bath and a shower. It is in silver and white, and it looks antique. That is all about my dream house. I just hope I will get it one day.

MY DREAM HOUSE

My dream house looks classical form the outside. It is a combination of a Victorian mansion and a Plantation home. It has white outside pillars and a porch with a table and chairs.

I want to have a big hall with a Persian carpet, leading us to a spacious living room. The living room has a big brown stone fireplace and enough space for a big flat-screen TV. My dining room is joined to the kitchen and has lots of cabinets and cupboards. There is also an oval

172

table and chairs. I think it’s good to have a library in my dream house. It has lots of bookcases and shelves for my books. Also, I may use it as my study.

My own bedroom is a huge one. I have my bathroom there with a Jacuzzi and a shower.

Then, my dream kitchen for my dream house is modern and has everything necessary: a fridge, a separate freezer, an oven, a microwave, a coffee maker and lots of other gadgets. You know, I love cooking, so my kitchen must be a nice comfortable one.

Last but not least, the land on which my dream house stands is a manicured lawn. Green, soft grass, with plenty of flower beds.

Yes, this is my dream house. It is old and charming on the outside, but modern inside.

I would like to describe this pretty picture of a comfortable living room.

The first two things you notice when you look at the picture are a big sofa with two cushions on the right and a coffee table in the foreground. There is something on the table, but unfortunately it’s difficult to say exactly what it is. Behind the coffee table, near the wall you can see a TV with a wide screen. It stands on a low TV table. At the moment the TV is on. To the right of the TV set you can notice a soft armchair. It looks a bit old-fashioned. Behind the armchair, in the background there is a radiator. Pay your attention to a very expensivelooking clock and two candles on the shelf above it.Abit higher there is a window, but there are no curtains at it. It’s strange. If you look carefully, you’ll notice a house plant to the left of the radiator. On the right-hand side of the picture we can see some cupboards and on one of them there are pictures in picture frames. I would like to draw your attention to a tall standard lamp with quite a big lampshade because in my opinion it makes the room cosy. On the floor there is a carpet. The picture is black-and-white, so I don’t know its colour, but I’m sure that it matches the sofa and the armchair.

In conclusion, I would like to say that the room is very nice. From my point of view, it is clean and tidy. I would love to have such a living room in my flat.

Appendix 6

MY FAMILY

Hi! My name’s Ann. I’m 17 and I’m from England. I live in London which is the capital of England. I’ve got lots of relatives and I think I can say we are a very close-knit family. In my immediate family there are five of us. My mother and father, Paul and Jill, have got three children: two daughters (my elder sister Jane and me) and a son (my younger brother Michael).

Mum’s a teacher at the University of London. She says she loves her job and her students. Dad’s a top manager in an engineering company.

175

My elder sister Jane is married and has two children: my niece Sally and my nephew Jack. Her husband’s name is Ralph. He’s my brother-in-law and he’s very nice. Jane is a housewife now, as Jack is a one-year-old kid. My younger brother Michael is still at school. He’s a teenager and he can be rather naughty at times.

My Dad has got a brother, called William. He is married to a wonderful woman,Aunt Mary. They live in Kingston. It’s a small town not far from London. Their daughter Julia is my cousin and a very good friend. They often visit us and we enjoy spending time together.

I’ve got relatives not only in England. My Mum comes fromAustralia, that’s why most of her relatives live there, for instance her only sisterAunt Sarah. She is single but has a boyfriend. Unfortunately, we very seldom see each other.Australia is so far away from England.

As for my grandparents, Tom and Emily, they are very special people. They are my Dad’s parents and they live in a small cottage in the country. I usually visit them every weekend. My grandfather always waits for me at the door with his arms open and a smile on his face. My Granny is a wonderful cook and she often makes my favourite cakes when I visit them. My grandparents are always ready to give me good advice and I love talking to them. I think I’m their favourite granddaughter.

I’m lucky to have such a united and friendly family.
