МЕТОДИЧЕСКИЕ УКАЗАНИЯ

1.В работе над иностранным языком студент должен руководствоваться «Методическими указаниями и контрольными заданиями (контрольные работы №5).

2.Каждое контрольное задание дается в пяти вариантах. Студент должен выполнить один из пяти вариантов в соответствии с последней цифрой его шифра.

Контрольное задание №5

1.Чтобы правильно выполнить задание №5, необходимо усвоить следующие разделы курса английского языка по рекомендованному учебнику.

1.Сложные формы инфинитива.

2.Обороты, равнозначные придаточным предложениям: именительный падеж с инфинитивом и объектный падеж с инфинитивом.

Используйте следующие образцы выполнения упражнений:

DANGEROUS GOODS TRANSPORTATION

Over half the materials carried by all modes of transport can be described as “dangerous”. About 5 percent of the whole amount of air cargo falls into this category. But what does “dangerous goods” mean? Broadly speaking, any article or substances is considered to be dangerous if it is explosive, corrosive, flammable, toxic, radioactive, magnetic or can cause damage to persons, to the vehicle in which it is being carried or to other cargo.

The potential dangers inherent in the transported dangerous goods, especially in aircraft, are reasonably obvious and domestic regulations are known to exist to control the traffic. Such details as a listed of dangerous auricles or substances, a list of detailed packing instructions are included in any useful provisions.

In addition to the basic regulations for controlling the transport of dangerous goods, the ICAO specifications are expected to expand provisions relating to the following: the flight crew is to be informed specifically when dangerous goods are on board; prior warning must be given to airport authorities in the event of an in-flight emergency on an aircraft carrying dangerous goods; the need for proper training of all affected personnel since the safe transport of dangerous goods depends heavily on those involved in all stages of the transport process.

DALLAS/FORT WOTH AIRPORT

The Dallas/Fort Woth Airport is designed around a series of decentralized terminals. Each independent “mini-terminal” is intended to serve passengers for one group of airplanes, air travelers being able to park their cars directly opposite their flight gate. Although such design is considered to be convenient, it requires a mobile link to all parts of the airport. The answer was supposed to be Airtrans, the most capable airport transportation system in the world.

Airtrans moves passengers, employees, baggage, mail and supplies within the airport at 17 miles per hour for an average trip time, including waiting time, of 10-12 minutes between any two terminals. Airtrans provides service between four passenger terminals, two remote parking as well as a hotel and FAA office and a maintenance area, a total distance being 13 miles.

Airport specialists believe Airtrans to have been one of the most efficient intra-airport transportation systems ever developed. In 1971 the contract was concluded and in two years and a half the new system was designed, built and completed.

AIR CARGO CARRIES’ PROBLEMS

There are some major problems facing each important air cargo carrier. There are: greatly increasing cargo capacities, diminishing profits, handling difficulties, improved surface transportation, intensified competition between the carriers. One of the question is how the market potential may be transformed into effective demand. Regarding tonnage and capacity, each airline must consider its planning data which requires reasonable efforts in market research and sales activities. To solve handling difficulties is another problem.

The air cargo potential is known to depend on the development of international trade, which is characterized by liberalization and increasing importance of multinational firms. In addition, an increase of disposable income is to be expected. In many countries this will help to expand the already

existing markets and arise the new ones. The expected development offers big opportunities to those who are involved in the air cargo business.

The optimist estimates for the development if air cargo will not only be based on the development of foreign trade, but on the commercial and technical improvement of air cargo as well. The growth of traffic arises from two sources: the natural growth of foreign trade and increase of the airline’s market share by taking traffic from surface carriers.
