CHEMICALS WHICH CONVERT LIQUID OIL PRODUCTS INTO GEL Russian scientists have developed special chemicals which can convert

liquid oil products into gel in few seconds. If there is a seed the gel can be

6

converted again into oil products. This technology is very important in transporting oil products and other cases.

It’s no secret that every accident with an oil tanker becomes an ecological disaster. The spilled oil over a large area leads to the death of many sea animals. New technology makes it possible for transporting oil transformed to gel in plastic bags; it will not lead to an ecological disaster since a supporting vessel can collect the bags.

The new chemicals can make structural changes in hydrocarbons and can be used in any climatic conditions. They react between -70 below and +70 degrees Celsius and emit no heat.

Meanwhile, the gel is stable at these temperatures. This technology is very useful in storing oil products since gel becomes fireproof.

With the help of new chemicals fluorine, iodine and condensed gas also can be converted into gel.

Упражнение 2. Определите функцию инфинитива в следующих предложениях.

1.Russian scientists have developed special chemicals to convert liquid oil products into gel in few seconds.

NEW TYPE OF IMPLANT

Russian scientists have created unique implants for the human skull. In general almost all the bones of the human body can be replaced by implants.

The head of the marketing service of the Khrunichev space center, Viktor Repin, says his center is known not only as the producer of Proton rockets and space probes for various purposes: “The space technologies of the Khrunichev center since 1995 have been used for the production of medical equipment. Our specialists have worked out pressure chambers to treat respiratory and cardio-vascular diseases, stomach ulcers and acute poisoning. These chambers have been exported to Britain, Yugoslavia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Greece and Slovenia. There is interest to these chambers in Germany and Peru. The latest elaboration of the center is a pressure chamber for 6 persons to carry out operations in high or low pressure conditions. Tests of the chamber have begun at the Surgery Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow. Like a space station this unique operating-room has several modules where doctors can easily change the pressure by means of pneumatic equipment.

The medical equipment produced by the Khrunichev center is reliable and relatively cheap. It is in great demand both in Russia and abroad.
