STARTING A NEW BUSINESS

  1. Read and translate the text.

An advantage of starting a new business enterprise is that you will be able to determine the nature and the location of operations without being limited by prior conditions. You can take advantage of new opportunities without being burdened with old methods. You can utilize the latest technology. You can select and train employees to your specifications. You can begin operations without the financial and space burdens of obsolete inventory. You can set objectives, plan, and develop a system for monitoring results with more freedom if you start your enterprise from the ground up.

Starting a new business has some disadvantages; the lack of proven record may make suppliers, bankers, and potentially large customers reluctant to make much of a commitment early in the enterprise’s life. All the problems of determining the nature and the location of the enterprise must be faced with a new firm. Despite the care with which planning is done, a new business usually requires more funds in its start-up period than was originally anticipated.

Delays may occur in constructing and equipping the business. Unexpected problems in designing facilities and beginning operations may delay the production or sale of goods or services. The inexperience of owners and new employees frequently contributes to the above difficulties. All of these possibilities make the new enterprise a risky undertaking. The proprietorship, the partnership and the corporation are the three most widely used legal forms of business organization.

The proprietorship is certainly the easiest way to start a new enterprise. All that is required of the proprietor is to secure a license to do business from the city, country, or government, depending on the laws in the particular location. Some enterprises are subject to special regulations and restrictions.
