17.International organisations
There are many organisations in the world dealing with international problems. Some of them are official, the other are public. Among them are the United Nation, The Red Cross, Greenpeace, Unesco.
The United Nations is an organisation of more than 182 countries. This is according to the latest figures. The pupose of the UN Organisation is to maintian international peace and to promote international cooperation among nations. Its headquaters are in the United States, in New York, but there are branches of the UN in Paris, in Rome and in Geneva.
The charter of the UN was formally signed by fifty countries in October 1945 in San Francisco.
Now the UN budget more than $900 million per yeat. When a country joins the UN, it promises to settle dispute or disagreement it has with another country peacefully.
The six main organs of the UN are – the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the Trusteeship Council, the International Court of Justice and the Secretariat.
Greenpeace is an international org., which deals with ecologicaland enviromental problems. Its members carry on dialogue with all political forces and struggle for passing lows for the improvement of our enviroment.
In Russia Greenpeace works on 4 directions – Wood Campaing, Antinuclear campaign and Campaign for preservation Lake Baikal. Greenpeace tries to attract attention to different problems in the world. It exists on contributions from individual people and grants.
UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Org. it was founded in 1945. Its aim is to observe human rights, to struggle against poverty, to create moral rules for communication between nations, to contribute to peace.
The Red Cross is an international org. it cares for the wounded and homeless. In conclusion I would like to say that all int.org.are very important, because they solve many political, economical, social, military and cultural problems.
18.Women, power and politics
None of human society can develop harmoniously moving to the highest conditions of life if woman's role is minimized and without balanced correlation between men and women.
Changes in social, political and economic spheres allowed to increase women's rights in society. Free economic relations and democratization create the basis for equal social rights for both men and women. But can woman hold high positions on a level with man, be in official circles, work at one of the difficulties post in politics? That is the question for today.
It seems that there are no difficulties now. But not every woman ventures to come in policy. There is a little per cent of such women, they are strong, hardworking, aspiring to the top. Most of them have keen bright mind and rather functional qualities. We can find not many women among real politicans in Russia. But I think women-leaders can bring the contribution to the modernization of the country, to creat harmonious model of modern society. The society is interested in active development of social sphere, education, science, culture. Women have acquired social experience and influence on political life.
As regards private life of women in politics, their responsibilities for keeing house and bringing up children, in my openion it is difficult to combine with their rhythm of life. In addition not every man would like to create a family with such a woman as they hae very strong, uncompromising, inflexible character. I can confirm it as I work at the MFA and the most of women-diplomats don't have families and children. Almost everybody of them is single. But in general the choice to be a mother or to be a politician remains for a woman. Eventually everyone searches business for ther tastes.
