  1. Учебно-методический блок

    1. Study the theoretical material on the topic using the literature given above.

    2. Imagine that you will be a teacher one day. But still you are a student & there are no necessary conditions for you to start career right now. Do the following tasks & use Conditional Mood in your speech. Be ready to represent your ideas in written form.

Teaching & Education

  1. Teaching is a hard job. To become a real professional requires certain qualities, skills & abilities. Discuss different traits of teachers using the Conditional Mood. Make use of the words in brackets:

    1. What kind of teacher would never arrest anyone’s attention? (to take a risk, to lose temper, to do a silly thing, to disobey instructions, to insult pupils, etc.)

    2. What kind of teachers would often be surrounded by colleagues & pupils? (to be interested in people & the job, to be talented, to be tolerant, to be patient, to be clever enough, to be inventive & creative, etc.)

    3. What traits of character would you appreciate in any person? (to feel deep, to poke one’s nose into other people’s affairs, to be friendly, to be a lazy-bone, to enjoy other people’s company, to be sincere, to be tactful, etc.)

    4. What traits of character would be required to make a good teacher? (to use methods & concepts of education, to use a lot of sources, to understand the individuality of a pupil, to respect people, to be patient, to take part in scientific study of a subject, etc.)

    5. What traits would prevent you from becoming a real specialist in the sphere of education? (to intrude your views on others, to annoy people, to be embarrassed, to be self-confident, etc.)

  1. Read, open the brackets & comment on the use of the Conditional Mood in the sentences:

If we could listen in on classrooms without being seen, we would hear many kinds of anger being expressed by teachers in today’s school. One teacher (to scream) & (to yell) at her/his children frequently. Another (to bang) on her/his desk. A third teacher (to throw) an eraser across the room. Another sarcastically (to insult) a child. One teacher (to grab) a child furiously & (to shake) him. One teacher (to tear up) papers, another (to charge) back & forth across the front of the room, letting off steam.

Compile your own story “Much good being expressed by teachers at school” using the Conditional Mood on analogy with the previous text.

  1. This is what some teenagers think about school. Please, remember your school life & share their opinions:

    1. “Everything would be OK if we didn’t have grades, tests & reports all the time, if there was less pressure.” Martin.

    2. Most lessons are boring. Sometimes I just have to doodle on my desk or write letters. Otherwise I’d fall asleep.” Janet.

    3. “I’d like school better if I could talk whenever I like. Normally we just have to be quiet, listen & nod our heads.” Carol.

    4. “Without a bit of discipline no one would ever learn anything. That’s what I think, anyway.” Mark.

    5. “We couldn’t do without school. School is not a place for fun like discos.” Melanie.

Now let’s discuss your student life. What would be useful to change in your student life?

  1. Say what would have happened in the study of FL if different inventions & advances of science & technology hadn’t been put into practice:

    • Mass & media technologies

  1. Find 20 examples of the use of the Conditional Mood in fiction literature, write them out & translate into Russian in written form.
