Притяжательные местоимения выражают принадлежность и отвечают на вопрос чей? Притяжательные местоимения имеют две формы: одну, служащую местоимением-прилагательным (зависимая форма), и другую, служащую местоимением- существительным (абсолютная форма).
Притяжательные местоимения в зависимой форме (my – мой; his – его; her – ее; its – его, ее; our – наш; your – ваш; their - их) стоят перед существительными, к которым они относятся.
He gave me her address. Он дал мне ее адрес.
His elder brother lives in Beijing. Его старший брат живет в Пекине.
После притяжательных местоимений в абсолютной форме (mine - мой, his - его, hers – ее, ours - наш, yours - ваш, theirs - их) существительные никогда не ставятся, так как сами притяжательные местоимения употребляются вместо существительных.
This is not my pencil, mine is blue. Это не мой карандаш, мой – синий.
I don’t like this garden, theirs is much better. Мне не нравится этот сад, их
намного лучше.
Русское притяжательное местоимение свой может относиться ко всем трем лицам единственного и множественного числа. В английском языке нет особой формы притяжательного местоимения, соответствующей русскому местоимению свой, и оно переводится одним из притяжательных местоимений my, his, her, your, their, our, its.
They gave us their magazines. Они дали нам свои журналы.
We have already done our tasks. Мы уже выполнили свои задания.

Exercise 4. Read and translate the sentences paying attention to the use of possessive pronouns.
1. My name should come after yours if the list is alphabetical. 2. Will you share your life with mine? 3. Everything I have is yours. 4. The responsibility is hers. 5. You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. 6. Jack and Amelia changed my life, just as I changed theirs. 7. I don't want any partners. I want this business to really be mine. 8. Exercise 5. Choose the correct form of the pronouns in brackets.
