18. Women and Politics.

Traditionally the role of a woman in the society was quite small as it can seem from the first glance. Since early ages men get the food, earn money, and provide the family with all necessary things while women manage the house, prepare food, bring up children. But over a period of ages (на протяжении веков) the situation changed greatly. Women are tired of being in the shadow of men, leading a quiet family life and managing only home affairs; they are tired of silly and irresponsible war games that destroy generations, countries, nations. In turn (в свою очередь) men, feeling the strong competition of women give up the position and as can seem sometimes refuse to do anything to change the situation. Women of 21 century finish high education, often even not one, work and not seldom have the position higher then some men do, give birth to the child and play the major role in his\her upbringing because not only spent more time with the baby, but also decide major questions in his\her life, and obviously manage the house, find time for self-development going to the theatres and museums at the same time finding somehow time for ourselves, while all the spare time of contemporary men after coming from work engaged with TV and computer games. As far as we see roles change and what this is - the temporary tendency or the novelty, only time will show.

Nowadays more and more women begin to try to realize themselves in politics. For many centuries the politics field was close to the women not only in Russia but also in the USA and European countries; women considered being not capable of solving difficult problems. At the same time women are tired of not capability of solving the problems by men as time shows and want to do smth to improve the situation and people’s life. Men give up the position unwillingly, but facts prove that many institutes give an excellent education and bring up skillful female specialists. There is a great deal of examples in every country (The USA: Condoleezza Rice, Hillary Rodham Clinton; Great Britain: Margaret Hilda Thatcher; European countries: Tarja Kaarina Halonen (Finland), Angela Dorothea Merkel (Germany); Russia: ). Talents belong not to men or women but to people. At the same time the development of the career doesn’t prevent women from managing the house and bringing up children. Furthermore, I can say that it becoming more and more popular among our well-known people, even sportsmen, who finish the career go to the politics.

A desire to be a politician can appear when you feel dissatisfaction with smth and the desire to improve or change this, the opinion how to do this. This feeling appear when a person first of all got an excellent education, have the work experience in some important field, also have special features of character and have the feeling of not readiness to make peace with inappropriate things. I’m only 2_ and I’m too young for such a position, I feel that there are some others fields in which I want and can realize myself and that can be the beginning of the career of the politician. But the way I see it, I have now the dissatisfaction with some things in our life and the desire to improve this, I’m not indifferent, I got accustomed to fight and compete, find the way out of every situations, maybe I’ll find the way how to change some thing and improve the life of people in our country. Of course, I understand that this is not an easy way, especially in Russia and especially for woman, but only time will show if I’m capable of this or not.

For approximately the last 100 years women have been fighting for the same rights as men. Free economic relations and democratization of all spheres of life create the basis for equal social rights for any human being, for both men and women. From a legal point of view, a man and a woman in Russia are equal. Women comprise 54 percent of contemporary Russian society. However, the number of women taking part in the country's political, economic and civic life shows that women are restricted in the spheres of politics and government.

In many cases a woman is considered as a wife and a mother. Though now women have more rights and possibilities than it was several centuries ago. Actually, women’s roles in society are often complex as they have to juggle responsibilities between paid work and family.

I think that a lot of Russian women don't want to be politicians and there are a lot of reasons to prove it. First of all, politics is a dirty business and that's why they don't want to get into it. When you're involved it's not very easy to escape. But if a woman has a desire to join a political party the difficulty is mostly in the male’s attitude. Also many women in our country still consider that men should be breadwinners. Besides every woman feels responsibility for keeping house, bringing up children and creating comfort at home. We can only find few women among real politicians in Russia. This means that politics has a male face. Women in Russia, according to some recent poll, want to organize something that is closer to their nature, for example, beauty parlours, shops, etc.

The reason why Russian women prefer housekeeping to leading the country is our mentality. Russian women are making progress in their own way, without adopting a Western approach. During all the history of Russia women have always been helpers to men. Russian women express themselves in poetry, art, social organizations.

As for me, I wouldn’t like to be a politician. I am sure every person should do what he or she can do really well. I am not interested in politics and it gives me much more pleasure to teach children than to decide political puzzles.
