How is success measured? Happiness. Achievement. Influence. Cash. However it is measured, it takes more than luck to come by. Success is almost always hard-earned. Yet the journey begins with a step. The first step toward success is confidence – belief in your ability to succeed. Working or looking for work – keep confident!

Good relations with your boss and other employees, or rapport, show a positive attitude toward work. Working together and getting along with others is called cooperation. Cooperation builds friendships. Cooperation depends on the ability to communicate with others, even at difficult moments. It is not always easy – for example, when your boss makes a decision with which you do not agree. Being cooperative is a key role of any manager.

But everyone also faces competition in their lives. Competition means a situation when people or organizations try to be more successful than other people or organizations. For example, you’ve been working for a company for three years. An opening occurs for a promotion to a higher position. You apply and you are considered but do not get the job. It is given to a co-worker who was more recently hired and younger than you. Does it mean your colleague is more successful than you? How will you speak to your boss about your feelings? Will you express your disappointment? Will you ask for an explanation? Will you mention that you have more experience than anyone else in the company? Anyway, make it clear to your boss that you will continue to cooperate. Fair competition is a normal thing in business. Live and learn, and next time you will be a success!
