3.3. The Complex Object

We consider the results to be satisfactory.

  1. желание, просьбу, ожидание: to wish, to want, should (would) like и др.

I wish the matter to be settled today.

I’d like you to help me with the translation.

  1. мнение, суждение, предположение, умственную деятельность: to assume, to believe, to consider, to think, to find, to know, to prove, to suppose и др.

We know television to be widely used in everyday life and in industry.

  1. чувственное восприятие: to see, to hear, to watch, to feel, to notice и др.

The students heard the professor speak about his experimental work.

  1. принуждение, приказ, разрешение: to order, to force, to allow, to tell, to permit, to cause, to enable и др. ( После глаголов to make в значении заставлять и to let в значении позволять инфинитив употребляется без частицы to).

Heat causes most materials to become slightly bigger.

He made us do this work.

После глаголов to see, to hear, to watch и др. в конструкции Complex Object,помимо Non-Continious Infinitive может употребляться Participle I, однако между действиями, выраженными Non-Continious Infinitive и Participle I имеется определённое различие.

He saw the professor to come up to the lab assistant.

He saw the professor coming up to the lab assistant.
