5. Join the two sentences to make one sentence with a gerund as a subject as in the model.

Model: Sandra’s a nurse. It’s hard work. – Being a nurse is hard work.

1. He never goes out. That must be boring.

2. Carol looks after young children. It’s very tiring.

3. They share a flat. This sometimes causes arguments.

4. You’ve come today. It has done him good.

5. He didn’t have a newspaper in his hands. It made the long ride much more boring.

6. I can’t tell my sister about it. It hurts me very much.

7. One has to make a reputation. It has never been easy.

8. Tom doesn’t have any friends. This must make him lonely.

9. He didn’t make the job. It depressed him.

10. Anne is a teacher. It requires a lot of patience.

11. Invite people to tea or coffee instead of dinner. It’s a way of saving money.

12. He’s a system analyst. It requires good mathematical ability.

13. Telephone people at times you know they are busy. It makes your conversations shorter.
