2. Read the following proverbs paying attention to the form and the use of Participle II. Give the Russian equivalents or translate them.

Part of a complex object

a) after verbs denoting sense perception:

hear, watch, see, feel, find

b) after verbs denoting wish: want, desire, wish etc.

c) after the verbs have, make, get.

I haven’t heard this fact mentioned before.

I found the cottage locked.

I want my shoes cleaned.

I want it proved.

He made himself respected.

You have to get it published.

You’ll never guess where I had the suit made.

Adverbial modifier of

time

usually after the conjunction when

When asked about the accident, the girl began to cry.

condition

after the conjunction if, unless

If taken literary, the sentence has no sense.

He did not usually utter a word, unless spoken to.

comparison

after the conjunctions as if, as though

He suddenly stopped as if struck by the news.

concession

After the conjunction though

Though surprised by his arrival, she didn’t show it.
