11. Why do people smuggle?

Smuggling is one of the most serious infringements nowadays.

This problem has: escalated considerably in recent years.

Nowadays people smuggle practically everything: currency, bonds, jewelleries, precious metals and stones, antiques, explosives, drugs, weapons, firearms, ammunition, etc.

The articles of art, antiques and jewelleries are the most popular articles of contraband.

Because of them the robbery of national riches of all countries is increased.

But there are a lot of people, who are faithful for their hobby or passion up to crazy.

They pay a huge of money to another people for contraband of the collection thing.

For most of smugglers the contraband is the thirst of money.

But arising of contraband was because of high duty on carrying goods.

In some cases the above mentioned articles are declared but the value or the number of the articles is stated false.

Such actions are also considered illegal.

Smuggled articles are detained.

As for the methods of contraband, there is a great field of activities for those who smuggle, so the Customs Service has to develop more effective ways of detecting cases of contraband, but there is no substitute for a well-trained and experienced Customs Officer.

The range of smuggling methods is considerable and they differ a lot.

And of course there are a lot of people who carry contraband goods such as drugs, ammunition, explosives, firearms for terror aims or for destruction of nation.

12. What are the methods of smuggling nowadays?

There are different methods of narcotics smuggling into the country.

The biggest part of the narcotics seized at Frankfurt Airport is found in checked or hand luggage.

This type of smuggling, which occurs again and again in all variations, is in fact the most frequently used.

There are no limits to the methods of concealment.

False bottoms in suitcases and similar pieces of baggage are favorite places of concealment.

Equipment and objects of art are also used to hide narcotics.

Drugs in bottles spray cans, cosmetics or books - the smuggler is always coming up with new ideas.

Narcotics are dissolved in liquids, clothing is saturated, musical instruments are filled and vases and statuettes are made out of cocaine.

The biggest advantage of this type of smuggling, besides being a very quick form of transportation, is also the fact that increasing volume of air traffic makes it impossible to inspect all arrivals effectively.

13. Speak about methods of detecting contraband.

Customs administrations around the world pay much attention to the detection of smuggling.

Smuggling can be harmful to a country as it decreases the proper level of controls on the import or export of goods.

These controls are carried out to protect the community, local industry and to raise revenue for the State.

Smuggling can be detected in many ways.

Most smuggling operations come to the attention of Customs through the use of routine Customs controls, such as physical examination of vehicles, ships, aircraft or their passengers, crew or cargoes.

The usual Customs check of various documents presented at the time when people, vehicles or goods enter or leave the country can help reveal the possibility of smuggling.

Simple checks of passports or cargo documents can provide indicators to the presence of smuggling.

X-rays machines and drug detector dogs are indispensable tools in the work of Customs when searching for contraband.

l4. What is tariff? What types of tariff do you know?

Tariff is a tax levied by a national government on goods that are imported or exported across the border of a country of that of a group of countries that have formed a customs union.

Tariffs are often classified as either protective or revenue.

Protective tariffs are designed to protect domestic production from foreign competition by raising the price of the imported commodity and restricting imports.

Revenue tariffs are designed to obtain revenue, i.e. (namely) to provide a major source of income for the federal government.

These two types are closely related.

Protective tariffs raise revenue, unless they are so high as to keep out imports.

Revenue tariffs give some protection to domestic producers.
