The Wonderful Dog

A ventriloquist walked into a town one day with a dog and no money. Hungry, and tired, he entered a restaurant. "Give me a full dinner", he said to the waiter. Then turning to the dog he said, "What will you have?"

The dog looked up and said, 'Til have a sandwich". The waiter could not believe his ears. The owner of the restaurant asked, "What did the dog say?" And the dog repeated, "I'll have a sandwich".

"Oh!" said the owner. "What kind of dog is that?" "That", said the ventriloquist, "is a talking dog".

While the man and the dog were having dinner, the owner said to himself, "What a wonderful dog! If 1 had that dog, I should be the happiest man in the world".

When the dog had finished, the man said to him, "Have another one?" And the dog answered, "No, thanks, I've had enough".

"Look here", the owner said to the ventriloquist. "I should like to buy that dog! Will you sell him? How much do you want for him? "

"I don't want to sell the dog", said the man, "but I need money. Give me fifty dollars and the dog is yours".

The owner gave him the money immediately and thought; "Now I shall have a talking dog!" He did not even notice that the man had walked away without paying for his dinner. But as the ventriloquist opened the door, he turned to take a last look at the dog. The animal looked up and said, "How ungrateful you are! 1 have done so much for you, and now you sell me for fifty dollars. I'll promise you I'll never say another word as long as I live!" jKnd he never did.ant asked, "What did the dog say?" And the dog repeated, "I'll have a sandwich".
