A Fox

A fox is one of the most beautiful animals, because it has a lovely coat and a long tail. But a fox is often hunted by people because of its coat and tail.

A fox eats chickens, kills and eats mice; it jumps on them like a dog does if it finds them on the ground. A fox can eat birds and insects. And sometimes it even eats green vegetables and fruit.

When a fox gets into a farmyard it becomes a very dangerous animal because it can kill a lot of birds there.

A fox does not like to chase a rabbit or a mouse long. In fact, foxes are lazy. They do not like to build their own houses. They prefer to occupy rabbits' ones and live there, under the earth. Sometimes rabbits do not go away and a fox lives in one part of the "house", and the rabbits in the other. Such neighbours often live peacefully together.

Foxes are very good parents. When cubs are born, the father brings food and water to them and their mother. When the cubs begin to come out to play the father brings much food to the place where they walk.

"Yes. I take care of myself, said the second brother, "because I want to live long and be happy".

One day the first brother left the town where they lived. He went to many places and the people who met him said: "He left some of his heart with us".

A Day with Granny

Two weeks ago my cousin George and I decided to visit our grandmother in London. We went up to London in the morning. After lunch we all three decided to sail down the Thames to Greenwich to have a look to old ships. But suddenly it started raining, so we had to change our plans.

We made up our minds to visit Madame Tussauds instead. George hadn't been there before. We were lucky: we got a taxi and there was no queue! It was great fun seeing all the wax figures. There were some new ones I hadn't seen before.

After an hour Granny felt a little tired and wanted to sit down and rest for a moment. She told us to go down and take a look at all the murders in the cellar. We promised to be back in half an hour.

When we came back we saw two American tourists standing in front of Granny. One of them was taking a photo of her.

We didn't understand why — but then we heard one of them saying, "She sure looks like a real woman!" - You should' have seen their faces a moment later when Granny opened her eyes.

Blackie

Mr. and Mrs. Brown were going abroad for their holiday. They had a dog called Blackie which they were very fond of; but they could not take him abroad with them, so they looked for a good place to leave him while they were away, and at last found a place which looked after dogs very well while their owners were away. They took Blackie there just before they left for their holiday, and sadly said goodbye to him.

At the end of their holiday, they got back to England very late at night, and as they thought that the place where Blackie was staying might be closed at the late hour, they decided to wait until the next morning before going to get him.

So the next morning Mr. Brown got into his car and drove off happily to collect Blackie. When he reached home with the dog, he said to his wife, "You know, dear, I don't think Blackie have enjoyed his stay at that place very much. He barked all the way home in the car as if he wanted to tell me something".

Mrs. Brown looked at the dog carefully and then answered, "You are quite right, dear. He was certainly trying to tell you something.
