Travelling by plane

I’d like to tell you about air travels. Arriving at the airport you go to the check-in desk where they weigh your luggage. You are usually permitted 20 kilos, but if your bags weigh more, you may have to pay excess baggage. The airline representative checks your ticket and passport and gives you a boarding card. Then you go through security control and go into the departure lounge. If you leave or enter a country you have to get through customs. About half an hour before take-off, you are told to go to a certain gate number, where you wait before you get on the plane. When you board the plane, you find your seat. If you have hand luggage, you can put it under your seat or in the overhead locker above your seat. An air steward or stewardess asks passengers to fasten their seat belts and put their seats in the upright position. The plane then taxis towards the runway, accelerates and takes off. People usually sleep, read or chat with their fellow-travellers during the flight. Some people may not feel well if they fly over several time zones. This is called “jet lag”. When the plane lands, you get off the plane and walk through the terminal building to the baggage reclaim where you collect your luggage.

Nowadays people can fly with traditional or low-cost airlines. Airlines work through scheduled flights or charter flights. Flights can be short-haul, medium-haul, or long-haul.

Travelling by train

Most people enjoy travelling because it’s a very interesting and exciting experience. They say travel broadens the mind. Some travel for pleasure, and some – on business; some travel light, and some take a lot of luggage on their travels.

There are different kinds of trains such as expresses, stopping trains, through trains, long distance trains, local trains, suburban trains.

Every journey has to be arranged beforehand. There are a lot of things that I must take care of if I want to make my journey comfortable. The first thing I must do is to reserve or buy tickets. The next step will be packing my luggage and coming to the railway station well in advance. And the last thing I will have to do is to find the right platform, carriage and compartment.

There are some things that can make person’s journey easier or more rewarding. For example, an interesting book can help to while away the time of the journey, a hearty talk with fellow passengers may be very pleasant. But there are also things that can spoil the impression of the journey. It can be travel sickness, heavy luggage, delays of trains. Bad weather, bad food, talkative fellow passengers can also make the person feel uncomfortable. And sometimes you have to change trains.

Travels and safety

Tourists should observe some safety rules to stay out of danger.

Tourists should travel with medical insurance because most countries don’t have free medical care.

Travellers should take sensible precautions with their personal property at all times. Tourists shouldn’t carry all their money and valuables around with them. It’s advisable to deposit money and valuables in a hotel safe. Tourists should always look after their bags or cases especially at the airport, railway stations and other public places.

When staying at a hotel tourists should lock their windows, balcony doors at night or when they leave their rooms.

Tourists shouldn’t walk alone at night. They shouldn’t count their money in public. They shouldn’t buy anything from strangers in the street.

Tourists should be sensible, careful and don’t forget that their safety is their own business to a large extent.
