Существуют существительные, перед которыми всегда стоит артикль the. Эти слова: the world (мир), the sun (солнце), the moon (луна), the earth (земля), the sky (небо), the environment (окружающая среда).
The sky is so blue today. Небо сегодня такое голубое.
I like sitting here and staring at the moon. Мне нравится сидеть здесь и смотреть на луну.
Артикль the употребляется перед существительным, когда речь идет о конкретных вещах.
I have to clean the carpet. Я должен почистить ковер. (конкретный ковер)
I must get to the station in half an hour. Я должен добраться на вокзал за полчаса (определенный вокзал).
