VI. A. Read the text and speak on your future speciality
I am a student of Chita State University. I belong to the Institute of Construction and Ecology. I entered this Institute because I have decided to be a civil engineer. I find my speciality very important and I do my best to make a good specialist.
We are provided with everything necessary for the purpose. We have a number of drawing-rooms, computer classes and a lot of well-equipped laboratories. During the first and the second years we study mathematics, physics, chemistry, strength of materials, architecture, theoretical mechanics and humanities. In the third year we are already introduced to the fundamentals of our future speciality. The speciality of a civil engineer requires good knowledge of a number of theoretical subjects such as: building materials, building constructions, foundations, technology of building production.
But pure theoretical knowledge is not enough for an engineer. We must have practical training as well. That’s why the problems dealt with at the lectures are later studied in detail at seminars and in practical laboratory classes. We are taught to calculate and design different buildings; constructions, etc. We carry out laboratory tests so that our calculations and designs of these constructions be put into practice.
Every year the students have their practice at the construction sites of our town or other places of Zhabaikalsky region. At the construction sites the students work as bricklayers, concreters, carpenters, painters, and so on. During our practice we deal with different building materials such as concrete, reinforced concrete, plastics and others. In senior years we collect materials for our graduation papers. The last term we’ll be busy with our work at the graduation paper.
