The future continuous (progressive) tense

SHALL (WILL) BE + V + ING

Exercise 1. Comment on the use of the Future Continuous in the following sentences. Translate the sentences into Russian.

1. This time tomorrow I’ll be lying on a beach in Tunisia. 2. Don’t telephone after eight. I’ll be having dinner. 3. Professor Corb will be giving another talk on English literature at the same tine next week. 4. Will you be having dinner at home this evening? 5. I shall soon be starting my studies at King’s College. 6. When will you be visiting us again? 7. The train will be arriving soon. 8. I’ll be seeing Tom tomorrow. 9. He’ll be taking his exam next week. 10. He won’t be coming to the party. 11.He will be examing his students the whole day tomorrow. 12. If you ring him up at midnight, he won’t answer. He will be sleeping. 13. At 10 o’clock tomorrow he will be having an exam. 14. What will you be doing this time next week? 15. In an hour we shall be seeing the New Year in. 16. Will you be using the car tomorrow? If not, can I borrow it?

Exercise 2. Put the verbs in brackets into the Future Continuous Tense.

1. When you arrive I probably (pick) fruit. 2. When we reach England it (rain) probably. 3. I’ll call for her at eight. - No, don’t. She still (have) break- fast then. 4. Exercise 3. Paraphrase using the Future Continuous.

Model: We are going to London tomorrow.

We shall be going to London tomorrow.

1. We’re catching the 8 o’clock train. 2. My brother is meeting me at the station. 3. Our wives aren’t coming with us. 4. They are staying at home. 5. Exercise 4. Ask a person about his plans using the Future Continuous.

Exercise 6. Say what you or other people will be doing at a definite moment in the future.

Exercise 7. Translate into English using the Future Continuous.

THE FUTURE PERFECT TENSE

SHALL (WILL) HAVE + V (Participle II)

Exercise 1. Comment on the use of the Future Perfect in the following sentences. Translate the sentences into Russian.

1. When do you think you’ll have finished your work? 2. The painters say they’ll have finished the downstairs rooms by Tuesday. 3. Will she have cleaned the house by their arrival? 4. I suppose he will have made up his mind before the meeting. 5. The guests will not have arrived by the time you return home. 6. Will you have left for Moscow by noon? 7. How long will he have been here by the end of the month. 8. When I come again, I hope your English will have improved. 9. I shall not have spend the money by the end of the month. 10. I’ll have worked here for a year next September. 11. If I stop smok- ing now, in three months time I’ll have saved enough to buy a new jacket. 12. I haven’t learnt those verbs yet, but I’ll have learnt them before the next lesson. 13. By the end of the week my friend will already have written his report on history. 14. Exercise 2. Put the verbs in brackets into the Future Perfect Tense.

THE FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS (PROGRESSIVE) TENSE

SHALL (WILL) HAVE BEEN + V + ING

1. I’ll have been teaching for twenty years this summer. 2. By the end of this month, we shall have been learning this language for ten years. 3.
