1. They usually listen to the latest news in the evening. 2. These seats cost ten pounds. 3. They usually catch the 8.10 bus. 4. We want to buy some new chairs. 5. We do some exercises in writing. 6. In the evening my parents watch TV or listen to the radio. 7. Leaves become green in spring and yellow in autumn. 8. On week-days we get up at 8 o’clock. 9. The Johnsons go for a drive in the country every Sunday. 10. The Smiths live in Boston. 11. Nurses look after patients in hospitals. 12. My parents live in a very small flat. 13. The Olympic Games take place every four years. 15. All passengers in the Boeing-747 feel safe enough. 16. The boys like to play football in fine weather. 17. Many foreign delegations visit our institute every year. 18. My students know English very well and can answer all my questions. 19. Men shave every day. 20. The students have a break for lunch at 1 o’clock.

Exercise 9. Make the following sentences a) negative and b) interrogative.

1. Mrs. Smith spends her weekends gardening. 2. Harry prefers to travel by air. 3. I do a lot of travelling. 4. They wish to speak to you. 5. The children like sweets. 6. Tom enjoys driving at night. 7. They sell fresh grape juice here. 8. My brother smokes a lot. 9. I brush my teeth every night. 10. The boys hurry home after school. 11. The taxes rise every year. 12. I use a computer in my work. 13. Mary works hard at her pronunciation. 14. Betty goes out with someone every Saturday. 15. Nick likes porriage. 16. My working day lasts eight hours.

Exercise 10. Rewrite the following questions inserting “do” or “does”.

Exercise 11. Rewrite the following sentences adding the adverbs of frequency given in brackets.

Model: 1. Mr Baxter spends his holidays at the sea side. (usually)

Mr. Baxter usually spends his holidays at the sea side.

2. Mary is late for her work. (always)

Mary is always late for her work.

Exercise 12. Complete the sentences by using adverbs of frequency. Mind their position in the sentence.

Model: 1. Susan often plays chess ... (seldom, cards)

Susan often plays chess but she seldom plays cards.
