My college

I've just left school and now I study at Samara College of Transport and Communication. I'd like to tell you a few words about it. It was established in 1964. It has four buildings. My college is one of the oldest specialized colleges in Samara. It's famous for its high-quality education and strict discipline. The college is very well-equipped. On the ground floor there's a gym, a canteen, a library and two workshops. On the first floor there's a large assembly hall, a home economics room, a computer class and a language laboratory. On the second floor there are physics, chemistry and biology labs.

I go to college five days a week. Lessons begin at half past eight o'clock in the morning. But I usually come to college ten minutes earlier. Each lesson lasts forty five minutes. After three or four lessons we have a thirty-minute break. During this break we go to the canteen to have lunch. Every day we have 7 or 8 lessons. The lessons are over at four o'clock in the afternoon.

We usually have a lot of homework and it takes me several hours to do it. I sometimes have to sit up to write a composition, to prepare a report, to translate a newspaper article from English into Russian or to learn a poem by heart.

After lessons I don’t usually go home right away. We have some out-of-class activities. Our social and cultural life is well-organized. For example, we have an orchestra, a choir, an arts club, an International Friendship Club. I take part in the drama club.

At college we have classes in Russian, Literature, Mathematics, Biology, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, English, History, Computer Programming. We also have Social Studies, Physical Education, and Information Technology.

My favourite subject is English. I like to learn new words, to dramatize texts and dialogues. I like it when we discuss something interesting to us, when we are taught to debate, when we have small-group discussions or set up a role play.

But I am not very good at Chemistry. I always fail to learn formulas and terms properly. Maybe our Chemistry teacher is too serious, too academic. She is not imaginative enough and her lessons are a little bit dull.

I like my class. I always feel at home there. Everybody is so friendly and easy to get along with. I am on good terms with my classmates and we often spend our free time together.
