THE INITIAL EVALUATION
At the beginning there is one successful and may be some dry exploration wells, very limited seismic studies and geological hypothesis
From very limited Reservoir knowledge, the OOIP is appraised and the Reservoir uncertainties are highlighted
An appraisal program of the Reservoir is defined (3-D Seismic, appraisal wells, sub surface studies …) to get a better Reservoir knowledge and to reduce the level of the uncertainties.
The minimum amount of Reserves which could lead to an economical development is defined

CONCEPTUAL STUDIES
Objectives:
Compare several development scenarii and recommend the best one (Concept selection)
Identify the remaining reservoir uncertainties and propose a programme to reduce them (complementary appraisal or specific data acquisition during development)
Confirm the economics of the project based on the recommended scenario
Evaluate cost and duration of the pre-project phase
17
CONCEPTUAL STUDIES & CONCEPT SELECTION
Target : Select the best scheme for field development
How ?
List the alternative schemes/concepts/scenarios to be studied :
Common sense
Brainstorming
Analogues
Two-step analysis
1) Selection of a limited number of cases ("screening")
2) Detailed analysis of the 3 or 4 shortlisted cases
18
CONCEPTUAL STUDIES: TECHNICAL CONCEPTS EXAMPLES
Phased Development or not
Unmanned or manned platforms
Offshore treatment or onshore treatment
Monophasic or diphasic flow
Access by helicopter or by boat
Conventional platform or submarine wells completion
Spare wells or not
Process redundancy or not
Redundancy for critical equipment or not,
Production of utilities or buying utilities from third parties
Scenario for product offloading and marketing
