Inlet

The Inlet feature adds a selection of boundary conditions that describe the inlets in a fluid-flow simulation. The following liquid boundary condition are available:

Velocity (default)

Pressure, No Viscous Stress

The formulations in this boundary type also appear, some of them slightly modified, in the Outflow type. This means that there is nothing in the mathematical formulations that prevents a fluid from leaving the domain

through boundaries where the Inlet type is specified.

B O U N D A R Y S E L E C T I O N

From the Selection list, choose the boundaries that represent inlets.

L I Q U I D B O U N D A R Y C O N D I T I O N

From the Liquid boundary condition list, select one of the following boundary condition for the inlet:

Velocity

Using this boundary condition, specify that the velocity at the boundary is equal to a given velocity vector u0 (SI unit: m/s):

ul = u0

Enter the velocity components in the u0 fields.

Pressure, No Viscous Stress

Using this boundary condition, set the pressure to p0 and also make the viscous stress zero at the boundary:

Enter the pressure at the boundary (SI unit: Pa) in the p0 field.

Using a Turbulent Flow interface, inlet conditions for the turbulence variables (k and ) needs to be specified.

Click the Specify turbulence variables button to specify inlet values for the turbulent

kinetic energy, k0 (SI unit: m2/s2), and the turbulent dissipation rate, k0 (SI unit: m2/s2), by entering values or expressions in the associated fields.

Alternatively, specify a turbulent length scale, LT, and a turbulence intensity, IT at the inlet. They are related to the turbulence variables via
