Dear Mr Maximov,

We have received your order No. 789-RF for which we thank you. Most of the goods required are available for sale. We, however, regret to inform you that Fixtures FQ-66 designed for roughing and finishing operations are completely out of stock.

We are extremely sorry for this state of affairs and regret that we cannot comply with all your requirements. We suggest that you replace these products by those as per enclosed catalogue under number 456. In comparison with Fixtures FQ-66 ordered by you Model FQ-70 has been perfected and is practically of a new design. Fixtures FQ-70 are very popular with our customers and we guarantee both the quality of this equipment and its availability.

We have itemized the price of the fixtures to let you see that the improved working characteristics of FQ-70 resulted in some slight increase in the price, but FQ-70 is excellent value for money.

If we are to respect the delivery dates and meet the deadline mentioned in your letter dated December 16 you should let us know your decision as quickly as possible. We trust our offer will interest you and we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Dear Mr Kroll,

Order No. 789-RF

Thank you for your telephone call of 16th January and for your letter of 15th January regarding the order we have placed for Fixtures for roughing and finishing operations. We accept replacement of FQ-66 by FQ-70 as we require them urgently.

Please note that as the price of FQ-70 stipulated in your quotation seemed considerably high to us we have to reduce the quantity of the order accordingly. We cancel delivery of 5 fixtures out of 15 initially ordered. However, we would be able to give you a substantial order to make-up for these cancellations subject to your discount of 5% from the price of FQ-70.

In accordance with your terms of payment, we have instructed the Bank for Foreign Trade of Russia to open a credit for $70,000.00 in your favour, valid till 31st March 20__. This credit will be confirmed by the Bank at HandelsInternational 14 Labe str. Hamburg.

We will accept your draft on us at 60 days for the amount of your invoice.

Please attach the following documents:

 2 Bills of Lading

 2 commercial invoices

 insurance policy for $75,000.00

The invoice should include delivery CIF St. Petersburg. The amount of our Letter of Credit covers this as well as bank commission.

2. To replace vs to substituteдля избежания досадных недоразумений необходимо помнить, что глагол to replace соответствует глаголу русского языка «заменять». Таким образом, to replace A by/with B будет означать заменять А на Б. Глагол to substitute, который также часто переводится словом «заменять», имеет, скорее, значение «подменять», «подставлять», «замещать» что-либо чем-либо. Таким образом, to substitute A for B будет означать, что А замещает Б, иными словами, это значит, заменить Б на А.

3. To stipulate vs to mention глагол «указать» в русском языке не определяет письменный или устный вид такого указания. Глаголы английского языка to stipulate, to state, to specify в коммерческой лексике в английском языке чаще означают «указать или обозначить что-либо в письменном виде», то есть зафиксировать на бумаге. Для передачи значения «указывать в устной форме» можно использовать другие глаголы, например, глагол to mention.
